Pilot Shaft Bearing????

I can't get my tranny to mate all the way up to the motor.....DAmnit. No matter what I do I have about an extra 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch... I have re-aligned teh clutch 5 times and everthing is kosier. I have tried 2 different trannies... WTF? I get it up and ready to go and the damn thing wont mate up. Does our car have a pilot shaft bearing or something that may be all out of whack or something.. ANYBODY HELP!!!!!!

Yes there is a pilot bearing and seal. You will see the seal sits flush to the countersink on the end of the e shaft.

Like the man said, it does have a pilot bearing and seal. Yes, it will be off by about 1/2 inch or so untill, like wackey racer said, yo uput the tranny bolts in and pull the tranny to the motor. I had the same problem.

Well I am a little worried about putting the bolts in and pulling it up as it ***** it on a funny angle no matter how I tighten the bolts or how evenly. All my other cars the tranny slides in nice and evenly. Can I smack the bearing back into place somehow.? Any easy fixes for this?

thanks

trevor.

Too much grease in the pilot bearing area can cause a problem also. check that. otherwise, tighten the bolts in cris-cross pattern.

Ok so I should be able to remedy this from under the car right? I was going to pull the motor again and try it on the ground... But if you guys think that I can do it from here I will....I have never had that problem before they usually go in like no sweat.

You puck may be backwards. I fought one for a hour one night only to find I have the puck backwards. After that, it slid right in.

You did not happen to have replaced the bolts holding the Slave in place did you? If the bolts are two long they hit the Flywheel.

No, the puck is the clutch. You know with the pads on it. Called a puck. Ok, where exactly are you in this? No drive shaft, no tranny mount. You must pull it in with the mounting bolts. The motor sags with the tranny out so this is why mine wouldn't line up. The tranny mounted with the mounting bracket actually holds the back of the motor up so it is a very good possibility that this is what is happening. You could also jack up the back of the motor and it should slide right in.

A clutch alignment tool is definately reccomended. Agreed. You might wanna try turning the engine over with a wrench, might help it engage.

this happened to me you might think that i am stupid but im not. if the header is still attached it will hold your motor up and not allow the tranny as you say to enter the last few inches. 1-2" is what happened to me. when the header is removed the motor will sag some more
