Yes it will. The GSL-SE axle is the same as any of the 84-85 non-SE.

And just to get things 100% confirmed, this is for non LSD cars, or do you just lose the LSD??

According to this thread, This will work on ANY car 83.5 or NEWER lsd or not. Kia front diff is open, Rear is lsd. So the rear is what you want.

For that price I can get a mustang 8.8 and 2 new rims to match the rest of my set. From a racer point of view, its probably a good mod, but add exchange rate, shipping and whatever else in there and its probably well over $3000 just for the hubs and axles. Add the torsen diff and you've got a very expensive mod there, probably more than someones engine itself is worth.

Yeah but if you had the etra money laying around and needed a car to through it at it would make pretty sweet mod.

So its a bolt pattern change for us non-SE owners anyway. I'm in canada too, so add canadian exchange on there, plus import taxes on abou $3000 of parts ($150 for a set of wheels costing $500), and its somewhere in the region of $3500 plus shipping.

LA is the place for almost free parts!!!

OK, boys and girls. Here's another update. This morning, after I dropped off my RX-3 to the body shop, I went to the junkyard which is just a block away. Walked in...dang ************, its 50% off today and for the entire weekend.

Went back to that KIA, but it was gone. So I went walking, like I was walking in the park, breaking things and putting little things in my pocket. Found several FB's but the only thing I grabbed was a clean *** under the rad oil cooler along wit hoses and distributor.

Anyways, on my way back to the front, I found the same KIA SPORTAGE 4X4 (I guess they just moved it since its almost gutted) Took me about 1/2 hour to take the rear diffy. Counted the gears, its 9 x 43 = 4.77 and ITS NOT LSD. **** but hey, its 50%. Then I threw it in my big *** FELIX THE CAT toolbag and went back to another FB (GSL with no 3rd member). I tried to install but I didnt fit.

So I spent another 1/2 separating the KIA 3rd member since I only need the ring and pinion At any rate, since its 50% off, I only spent $42 for the KIA 4.77 ring and pinion plus oil cooler.

Here's the pix.
Left is KIA while right is a ring from a 84 GS.

I will talk to my my other cousin since I never done diffy and see if I can do a "how-to."

Im only going to use the ring and pinion to keep the LSD. 4.44 in the FB and 4.77 in the RX-3.

Very Interesting. I'm curious, What year was the fb that you tried to install the pumpkin in?

That would be fantastic.

I imagine many people will be swapping gears over the next few months.

LOL dam straight.... But I have to keep my LSD and I am not mechaniclay inclined enough to open up the rear end, and just do the ring and pinion... Is there a LSD 4.77 that just bolts right up, or a 4.44 that I can find in a scrap yard?

Damn good deal there. The junkyard here won't even let a 2nd gen leading coil and ignitor go for anything less than $80 CND. Hopefully I can find a R&P to put onto my LSD rear end to complement my engine.

cool, Let us know what happens with the lightened casing. I don't doubt you though, Cuz the 83 housing i tried on a 82 housing wouldn't fit either.

Please do that write up Wacky, I'm rebuilding an SE rear end now and am interested in this upgrade while I've got it out.

A guide on removing and replacing the ring and pinion would be invaluable, is ther any traps ie: angle, clutches, spacers....

can someone tell me more about the b2600 4x4 thing, cause i know where there are 2 ranger 4x4's of that exact vintage that i could get probably anything i wanted from.

i'd like some 4.44 lovin to go with the new 13b and lsd, it'll be much faster than the last time i drove it... 12a and 3.9 open.

edit: actually the last time i drove it was about half a 12a... stupid motor blew 180 miles from home and i had to get back home so i drove it.... man that that suck ***.
