Passing Smog "Trick"

I told you guys about my co-worker that passed smog by adding alcohol to his gas. '86 Accord. Well, here is were he got the idea. As a disclaimer, I will say I don't condone, nor have an opinion for this sort of thing. It's for informational purposes only.

As copied from an MSN Newgroup discussion:
This won't work for a real oil burner, but if a vehicle is close to
passing an emisssion test - whether in California or other emission
requirement state, running the car on a strong alcohol/gas mix during
the test will dramatically improve the test numbers.

This works because the primary combustion products of alcohol are
nothing but carbon dioxide and water

Ethyl alcohol is best but often hard to obtain. Methyl alcohol works
fine also, and is readily available as gas line anti-freeze.

The ideal strategy is to run the car to full operating temperature,
and nearly empty then, wiht the car running, add a gallon of alcohol
belnded gasoline ( gasohol ) and a dozen bottles of the gas line
antifreeze ( make sure it is the METHANOL kind - NOT the ISOPROPANOL
kind ), drive a couple of miles to purge all the straight gas out of
the system and head for the testing facility. As soon as the test is
completed, fill the tank with good grade non-alcohol blended gasoline
and drive 5 or 10 miles to get the methanol dilution down to a
reasonable figure. It is berst not to shut the car off until the
strong alcohol blend is cut with a lot of gas as the car can be hard
to start on the alcohol mix. It is best to add gas to the tank as
often as possible for a couple of days to dilute the methanol and then
drive the tank to near empty before refilling to get most of the
methanol out of the system. You have to be aware that a strong
concentration of methanol can damage some fuel system components if
left in the vehicle for an extended period of time and it is best to
purge it quickly. Of course - you could siphon the tank dry right
after the test too and then refill with non-alcohol gas.
