Hopefully my turbo will come soon, and then I need to order other odds and ends. I'm also hoping to be able to order my front CCW's at the end of this week (just need the hubs on to take measurments) This winter is going to be a blast putting this beast together!

Thanks for looking!

She trips when I have one part on the floor.

She is coming together! Cant wait to see that beast run!

Naegleria_Fowleri 09-06-06 01:11 AM

I am with Matty, I can't wait to see this beast running. Widebody FB's are wonderful, and turbo FB's are a dream. Can't wait to see videos of your car completed and running around.

gonzz 09-06-06 01:21 AM

Nice.. It took about 8 months to do my project.. well worth it.. I can now enjoy it.. Going to Hot Import Nights next weekend to show it off..

gonzz 09-06-06 01:23 AM

I was wondering on the big brake kit.. Will the new rotors be in the same location as the stock ones were? I'm going to be using the 4 lug fc rotors to keep my wheels..

perfect_circle 09-06-06 01:26 AM

all i can say is you must be very proud to be putting together something of that magnitude. it is quite an accomplishment. congrats.

Hmmmm I can't say for absolute sure (I never measured and the hubs still aren't on the car. But I would say the rotor stays in the same position but the hub mounting surface sits a few inches futher out. I'll take pictures when I have some time!

Thank you for all the awesome replies, it's really exciting to see this thing coming together. It sure takes alot of money and time but it should be worth it in the end!

Directfreak 09-06-06 10:17 AM

With the CP Big Brake Kit (very similar, but inferior to yours) - I had to use a 1" spacer to clear the TII brakes with the 2nd Gen (5 lug) wheels)

Turbo 85 10-26-06 05:19 PM

hey guys where would i be able to find a S5 LIM to FD UIM adapter ?

What's the specs on the turbo? I'm looking for one and really don't have a clue on specing one out. Looking for 350 hp as a DD with 400+ for play days.

Dan_s_young 10-26-06 10:07 PM

It's this turbo here: http://www.rotaryshack.com/Products/...?intNotice=140

Update, as time passes and money comes in the project is slowly progressing. I now have a JDM Series 5 TII motor torn down waiting to be rebuilt. The motor chucked a apex seal on the front rotor, and took out the housing. Luckily I have access to 2 new S5 housings.

As far as my motor build goes here is what i'm thinking:
Series 5 JDM TII motor
Large streetport
Series 4 Low compression rotors (new bearings)
New series 5 eccentric shaft
New Hardened front and rear stationary gears (new bearings)
Get the irons lapped and renitrided
Pineapple racing rebuild kit
Aftermarket oil pressure regulators
ACT streetlite flywheel, ACT clutch/pressure plate
GSL-SE front cover/Oil pan
Racing beat Oil pan baffle

I know some of the components I have listed do not REQUIRE replacement. But I figure I should do this right the first time around, and have all new bearings and new spec journal surfaces. When pushing the limits of a motor like this the last thing you need is to have components with excessive wear.

Anyways I got more parts from luiml73 last week and I went to work installing the FMIC from him today. A bit of the front air dam had to be cut in order to get it to fit right but I am happy how it turned out. I also got black 4 ply couplers for the polished intercooler piping, and got all stainless steel T bolt clamps for all the connections.

Anyways onto the pictures.

I'm only 19 years old, I have owned a RX-7 since before my 16th birthday. But I got this widebody chassis last winter and have bought all the parts since then. The reason I have been able to get so many parts is that I am making decent money right now as a automotive service technician, and have cheap rent.

blwfly 02-18-07 11:19 PM

wow u defintly have your head screwed in the right position:)
maybe i should change from construction and go automotive lol im gettin 13$ and still am just makin ends meet

Arockrx7 02-18-07 11:20 PM

you work for a Nissan dealership right?

I am about to sign up for a Nissan class, how do you like there ways of doing things?

Dan_s_young 02-18-07 11:27 PM

Nissan has been really good to me so far. They seem to be very solid vehicles, and they are straight forward to work on. The amount of Nissan's are dealership moves is just unreal, and they of course all come back to be serviced so the work is very steady.

Worst part is probally all of the VQ25's that need to be replaced due to oil consumption. At the same time, it's good experience being in a shop that is doing this kind of work. Just doing oil changes all day you become a drone, need a good variety of stuff to keep the job interesting and challenging.

luiml73 02-18-07 11:44 PM

I'm glad some of my stuff went to a good home. she's looking pretty mean Dan.

trochoid 02-19-07 02:04 AM

Keep the entire S5 rotating assembly, go with the 3 window bearings and do all of the oil mods you can. If you want to go all out, balance the assembly, raise the redline and go with a larger A/R.

Can't thank you enough Luis, I still am shocked your getting out of the game. But I guess there is a time when you just know it's the right thing to do.

That would be a really mean setup, but I figure if you were doing that you should go with a bridgeport a larger turbo and really shift your powerband. The goal for my car isn't as much to have a high reving track beast but more of a streetable setup. Also I wouldn't really have a place locally here to balance the internals, well there is RX-7 Specialties but not a chance i'm going there...

luiml73 02-19-07 10:10 AM

Hope you enjoy her. Don't worry, there always a new game ahead:D

Now if that's your next rotary turbo project, I want one too. :icon_tup: :icon_tup: :icon_tup:

Dan stay with the S5 rotors. On the other hand, I'll take them if you aren't going to use them. :)

Nice job for 19.
I'm 19 also and am just getting around to putting another motor in my two week old SE.
I've finally started making bling and am back home at the 'rents house after a year of being on my own so hopefully I can follow in your steps with a sick project like that. I make about $15/hour and get hella crazy overtime pay. Holidays are nice. DOUBLE TIME AND A HALF! :D

680RWHP12A 02-19-07 12:58 PM

man , its really comming along nicely dan!

Scott I'm still kind of tossed between the two series rotors. The reason why is, sure I could make more power at lower boost with a higher compression rotor (the series 5). But since the combustion chamber is larger with the lower compression S4 rotor more air and fuel could be rammed into the engine. Also I wouldn't have to be AS concerned with detonation, although its still a primary concern.

Also at the same time the S4 rotating assembaly is heavier (figured a Streetlite flywheel would help offset this), but I think I may still go that route. A local engine builder (has built multiple TII engines with similar horsepower goals in mind) recommened I go the S4 route from experience.

Either way, I'm sure the rotors I will use will not be holding my car back as both series have there advantages and disadvantages.

trochoid 02-21-07 12:32 AM

Choice is your's Dan. Let me know what you plan on doing with the S5 rotors and counterweights. Btw, which part of Canada are you in? I've been debating about doing a bit traveling to meet up with some other members when I deliver the shell to Sam, just east of Detroit. PM me with your addy if your are anywherenear there or Jon's location.

Norwegian_rotary 02-21-07 07:46 AM

Where did you bought those headlights that you are using?

I'm building me an FB my self here in Norway, and I'm thinking of getting me that kind of headlights for my car..

I hope you can give me an answer..

Sorry if I'm bad in English but as i said, I'm a norwegian.

84RX_Se7en 02-21-07 09:26 AM

No worries man. What you said made perfect sense. I would also like to know where those were purchased. :)

And hey, you seem relatively new what with only 6 posts. Just want to extend a welcome to the darkside... and if I'm repeating anyone then oh well. Welcome again! :)

thanx man..

I've been here for a while, but i havent said anything, just been reading and learning things that i need to know.

dbragg 02-21-07 09:54 AM

dan, the project is coming along nicely. im surprised to see youre 19. i just didnt think that. im 19 as well. turning 20 in a couple months. im not trying to go forth with a project anywhere near the magnitude you are. im making what looks to be the exact same pay as 84rx_seven and i live at home with the folks. hell, free room and food. cant complain. im cooking up something though that should be rather nice but ill catch a heck of a lot of slack for. now hurry up and get this thing running!

Norwegian_rotary 02-21-07 10:11 AM

dan, I like what you are doing, I'm 19 yr old too. Its impressive to see what you are doing with your car.

I'm building me a Rx for my self. I use suspension and steering from a Rx7 FC and the engine and gearbox originaly belongs to an FD.

The car will get a Grp B rally widebody-kit...

I dont know what to do with the front end of my car, but have been thinking of some headlights like those you have. And the rest of the front i maybe create my own with composite.

OnlyOnThurs 02-21-07 10:16 AM

Very Nice Dan!!!!

dj55b 02-21-07 10:43 AM

Dan have you thoughts about purchasing ceramic seals? Would help alot of the detonation issues. I know they had a group buy not too long ago and might still be effective. Something maybe worth while investing in. Just a thought

Sam

it's all about ability to drive, availability, where you work, and expierence. I started at 14 making 5.25/hour being a bag boy, then I went to a hardware store and made up to 7.30/hour there, my next job was a temp. during the summer with the USPS at 11/hour, and now when I'm home on breaks I make 10.44/hour at Lowe's, and 14/hour at an internship.

blacknmild874 02-21-07 12:31 PM

excellent work dan! keep us posted, i too would like to know where you got those flush mounts.
