parts interchange list? 79-85
Ive read, looked, searched, and maybe i missed it or am using the wrong words, the only link I found is now dead...
Does anyone know of or have a link to a list of the different parts that are interchangeable between the years without having to search out each part on here for compatibility.
For example I want to pillage a wreker and want to know things like
What years are the doors the same, the control arms, the brakes, the clutch, the glass, etc, etc.
Or is it safe to say most parts are different between 79-82, 83-84, 85? If there is a master list that would be sweet
, if not back to searching.....

1st off, it would be accurate to group the parts in 79-80, 81-83 and 84-85. Virtually all the parts are interchangeable regarding how much modification you wish to do. secondly, For front suspension, everything will swap over as long as you keep the associated bits (struts and strut mounts are different from S1 and S2/3 cars). Rear suspension parts are more interchangeable, as long as you swap the whole units over. The only speed bump being that SA (78/9-80) chassis has an odd ball fine thread pitch for the brake line fittings which require an adapter that can be found via racing beat or mazdatrix.
When it comes to engines, any engine will fit, but you must make sure that the front/rear counter weights and flywheel match the rotors in the engine. Here, there is a little rule. S1 and S2 rotors can be used woth S1 or S2 front counter weights/flywheel, as long as the counter weights/flywheel match each other IE. S1 rotors can be used with S2 counterwight/flywheel, or vise versa as long as the counter wights are a matching set. S3 engine bits are S3 engine bits regardless and cannot be interchanged.
Tansmissions are interchangeable between S2 and S3's, but S1's have a different location of the shifter itself, and are, for the most part, not interchangeable. Also, now that we are talking transmission related bits, when it comes to clutch/flywheel sizes, there are also differences. All S1 and S2 Rx-7's used a 215 mm clutch/flywheel assembly, while S3 and all later NA rotary engines used a 225 mm clutch/flywheel assembly. These clutchc/flywheel sizes can be interchanged via after market flywheels, as long as the appropriate rear counter weight (to match front counter weight and rotorrs) is used with the flywheel...
there are many more interchangable bits, but its 2:30AM and im tired... ill continue tomorrow

ill work backwards, cause its a little simpler. there are 3 basic groups of 1st gen, 79-80, 81-82 and 84-85, 83 is a mutt.
the body is the same 81-85, except the wiper cowl, and the front valance/air damn. 79-80 has different bumpers, fenders. the doors differ in how the door panels mount, but are the same on the outside.
the suspension is the same 81-85, except the 84-85's have larger bearings, so the rotor/bearing/strut is larger diameter. same in the rear, larger axles, and bearings. the whole assembly will swap though. brakes are the same 81-85, except the gsl-se which has different calipers and rotors.
the driveshaft is the same 79-82, and then 83-85.
the trans is basically the same between 81-85, 79-80 have a different shifter location. the 5th gear ratios vary depending on model and year.
the 81-85 12A is basically the same, 79-80 will physically bolt in, but the reactor emissions are totally different.
interiors are 79-80, 81-83 and 84-85.

quite a bit of the little interior parts are the same 79-85, and there is more that only varies in color, like the rear hatch stuff. 79-83 had black, and 84-85 had a grey for example.
the carpets do change, but since the floor didn't, its like color/weave/footpads

I will most likely be swapping in a 1983 trans into my 82 FB.
Most importantly I know that I will need a small dia clutch.
After that, I was planning on swapping over and using my clutch hydraulics. Ie 1982 master and slave cylinder. My diveshaft should slide right in also.
Anybody dealt with this situation? All of my searching and Mazdatrix FAQ says this is how it should work.

81-83 trans should be the same, no? I thought the change wasnt until 84-85. Either clutch and slave cylinder should work with the 83 trans if Im not mistaken. The difference between 82-83 is the flywheel/clutch diameter, but the 82 fywheel/clutch should still fit the 83 tranny spline and bell housing.
