Paradox's Project SE : the Journal.

look's like i'm back into the RX7 world, once again, after many attempts at trying to make my black GS a decent car i have since switched my focus on my GSL-SE. reason being for rust, electrical gremlins and a blown motor.

i think the SE is a better platform and i can have a little more fun with it, my plans are budget orientated since this is just a hobby car to me, my supra is where most my money ends up. so far the plans for the SE are going to be tremclad paint, roll on style. $50. great thread on that here :

http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/...t=1&vc=1&nt=21

the rear-end needs a rebuild, which i may attempt myself after doing a bit more research. the car in general needs some revival. i am working slowely at making this a reality. i have had Rx-7's pretty much all my life and should be putting a lot of wrench time in on this one. i know i have on the past ones.

here is a bit of a journal i'll try to update as much as possible. check it out!

I painted a hood using that method. It came out ok. It'd be pretty decent for a daily driver. Definitely not show quality though.

here's the pictures i took while doing it.

i think properly prepped and with enough wet sanding it could make for a very very nice paintjob. i spent far too much time reading into that thread.

you have to imagine how tough that paint is made and what its for. would be a nice cheap alternative that has potential to look very good!

I used the rustoleum one. I didn't have any issues with hardening. that hood has been smacked around pretty good in my garage and still doesn't have any scratches or anything.

I didn't do any wet sanding. but thats not why i wouldn't use it on a show car. The colors they sell don't seem to match what they describe. The can the paint on that hood said it was a "dark hunter green" and it came out to be almost teal. It also doesn't really have the luster of a real automotive paint. It also took about 3x more time than a spraying. That said, I'd probably do it again on a daily driver. My show car will definitely get regular paint though.

Has anyone here tried it yet? I just grabbed an orbital, the 40grit pads, the professional foam roller, foam brush, and the Rustoleum Enamel (Gloss Black, but spray can). Trying to put something together. I couldn't find the cans of said paint but I figure the spray can could get me started in some of the hard corners. In the mean time, I'm not sure how far to orbit down to on the paint. In some places I have rust, which though not pitted or with any amount of depth, is all the way to the metal and I guess I gotta sand all the way down to that.(?) Plus, since this is my first so called body job, I don't even know if this is the right tool to be using. I guess rx7club isn't the best place for painting advice since it isn't directly related to our car. ****. Anywho, I can make things any worse.
