Ontario and straightpipes
anybody here from ont. understand what dalton is doing this time?
when i read the www.driveclean.ca posting, it seems that they will begin testing all vehicles built after 88 starting 2009...
but the 20 year "rolling exemption" will be abolished at also reads... this is somewhat contradictory, but i think it means all >=88 cars will be tested from now on, and 1st gens will be safe forever... i hope im right.. **** the second gen bricks!
comments/clarifications?
w00t! first thread!

turns out our first gens will survive another round with the liberal goverment.
its funny how they say "the new program will target vehicles most likely to pollute" but it makes no specific mention of RX-7's... burning tires for heat is cleaner than driving to work some days.

The exemption for 20-year-old light-duty vehicles is ending as we begin to focus more on the vehicles most likely to pollute. All cars, 1988 model year and newer, will require emissions testing until they are taken out of service. These vehicles would have had their last test for registration renewal in 2007, when they were 19 years old. They will now need to continue to be tested in 2009 and ever two years after that
turns out our first gens will survive another round with the liberal goverment.

No your are not safe, the car originally came with a cat. So if cops decide to check and you have a straight pipe you will get a hefty Ticket ( i believe its around $ 300 - $ 500 ) first time around. and second one is huge , $ 5000 i think not sure.
So install a hiflow cat.
Now you guys are lucky cause you dont need to pass etests anymore. ( or atleast with todays information out there )
theres quite a few threads about this in the canadian section in the bottom.

yup looks like we're safe. all they're saying is that any car newer than 88 will need emissions testing forever, like it will not be excempt in 2008 because of being 20 years old. the 20 year old rule won't matter anymore....but only after the year 2008
so yes, we are safe!

FC3s.usd makes an incredibly valid point though.. time to take an old cat shell and weld it around my stright pipe... then it LOOKS like a kitty!
though id like to grab a highflow and add an air injection hole to it and run ai all the time.. w/o air injection the cat will plug up from all that oil, but would it overheat if run extra lean (inside the cat of course)?
edit: i also read the two most current canadian threads... they dont seem to be that well informed.

I know, i know.
I would assume the queens printer would get the interpretation correct for the website, otherwise ther'd be hell to pay.. notice the grammatical mistake at the end of my quoted section: "and EVER two years after that"
maybe the poor web designer was having trouble as well. If you read the dumbed down version, then check out the pdf with that in mind, that COULD be the correct interpretation.
The confusion arises because they clearly state they will abolish the 20 year rolling exemption, but dont explain HOW they will do it.
i would assume because the pdf and website makes the big hoorah about 1988 model years, that 87 and older are exempt, and 88 and newer are fubar. furthermore the changes being implemented in 2006 are stronger fines and LESS testing, so we're safe from the sniffer into january.
Phone your closest liberal rep and ask them to keep your baby safe..
then phone your closest conservitive rep and tell them the liberals eat babies
then phone your closest NDP rep and tell them you say dalton spitting on a unionized worker
parlement will collapse right afterwards (before the federal one! ahahaha!)
