OMP: How long should it take to start pumping?

Hi everyone, I'm new here (and to rotarys in general), so I'll stick with tradition and make my first post a question.

When you start up a cold 12A, how long does is take for oil to actualy apear at the tubes inside the carb primaries?

My 84 GS, that I've had since june, seems to take a while. Usualy over a minute and a half, and the front rotor always gets oil first. Once it took five minutes for the front and six for the rear after the car sat for eight hours. I am now premixing and wondering wheather or not to look for an OMP rebuild kit and a set of lines. I'd like to know from all you 12A guys running the stock set-up how long yours takes, and if I should worry. I've done a volume check and it's within specifications.

Oh, and please no advice about going to premix permenantly. Thanks.

Welcome to the Darkside.

The oil in the MOP lines should not be draining back like that. They should be holding some oil after shut down. Is your MOP leaking, are your MOP lines good? The rubber ends tend to split and need careful inspection to find them, often under the clamps.

There is a thread in the archives on rebuilding the MOP and where to get a kit.

Sig line is added for new members and has a link to the online FSMs. It's all in good fun.
