and how do i safley get the cap off the idle mixture screw?

i think someone on this forum made a tutorial on removing vac lines and all that other emissions crap. you can prolly find it with a search.

You must be driving a Cali 7, because I dont' think many of the others have caps on the screw.

Unfortunately, those caps are designed so that the home mechanic can't take them off without severely tampering with the cap, which the smog ***** will have a fit over.

You have to take it to a local smog mechanic shop and have them take it off and adjust for you. They'll adjust it with the car on the smog machine, so that you aren't making your car illegal with the adjustments.

If it's running okay, don't worry about it.

You take the vac lines off with some pliers. Grab, twist pull. Be very careful becuase they are quiet old. The crap your taking about over that screw will just scap off. Mine did not have a cap, it was a factory goo.

old vac lines bein replaced can be removed very easily with a razor and needle nose pliers...as for the screw...mine was goo too...i used a small flat head screwdriver to take that goo out...dunno yours since you have an 88 maybe the 2nd gen forum section would help
