Ok where do these msd wires go

I have an msd box and 2 new blaster coils. I am not going Direct Fire. I talked to Iotus and he says he runs his MSD through his ignitor so ok i got that part. My only problem is that there is a positive and negative wire that the manual says to hook to the coil. when i hook the negative wire up my coil just loses all ability to send spark aynwhere. Anyone that has installed an MSD but not direct fire, please help

Do a search, n00b! j/k. I haven't done it meself, but I've been looking into threads with info on it as I plan to do it in the near future. There is a question in the 1st section FAQ that covers it I believe. Check it out and hope that helps.

Thick Red Wire = Battery + terminal
Black = Ground
Thin Red wire = Splice this wire to the coil’s original + wire (the black wire with white stripe). This will is your MSD’s on and off switch

Orange = coil’s positive
Black = coil’s negative

MSD Purple = dizzy green
MSD Greeen = dizzy red

Check the FAQ. I cant remember them all. Same wiring as the direct fire except, no need for a bridge wire since ur running the leading spark plugs thru the dizzy cap.

Well ive tried wiring like that except i hooked the switch power wire that you talk about splicing to the trailing coil's positive, could that be my problem. Cuase if not then somethings wrong because ive tried every wiring possiblilty. And we will see how long my cap and rotor last, then ill but an msd one that wont burn out and be done with it

Yeah, hook the thin red MSD wire to the trailing positive (or leading positive = same difference) so it gets power when the key is turned on.

Have fun buying an MSD brand rotary cap and rotor.

The MSD wires can be the ONLY wires to the coil. Any other wires going to the coil will fubar up the signal. I made that mistake when I put mine in.

Install an in-line fuse on a MSD 6A or 6Al's main + wire as there is no fuse inside.

The MSD instructions say that it has an internal fuse.

Insulate the ends and tuck them away somewhere.

nope...I had to replace someone's box (was incorrectly installed by another guy). Opened the burnt box and I didnt see a fuse.. So since then, I always install an in line fuse for extra protection.

I used either 30 or 40 amps using the 2nd gen fuse box.

She runs, and wow i notice a difference. I hooked mine up how Iotus did his(we used the white wire and the ignitors). I can tell a difference in idle, and top end power. Definately worth the money and headache

Edit: Cool! Now that it runs, get used to it for a while, then you can start experimenting (try direct fire with an FC leading coil some day).

You can use the white wire on both trailing and leading igniters.

You can use the white wire on both trailing and leading igniters.

Both Powerhouse Engineering and Rotary Power are using the white wire MSD set up.

Sweet! I'm hooking an MSD 6AL (using green and purple wires of course) to an FC leading coil as soon as I get my '73 12A rebuilt with '83-'85 rotating assembly. I'm also getting a Sterling carb for it.

Not at the same time of course. You'd need two MSDs, but trailing isn't necessary to upgrade since it adds so little to engine power no matter what you do. It also become nearly redundant with direct fire on leading because the extra leading spark (180 degrees after it normally fires) ends up doing trailing's job by igniting the trailing edge of the AF mixture (squish area) quite well. You can tell easily if you have an aftermarket exhaust; it's less smelly.
