OK rotary buff, I got one for ya
Went to meet with a guy in my area who has 6-7 old rx7's laying around...thought I'd look at what he had....He has this 83 Rx7 with a BACK SEAT!!!! That just about blew my mind??!!..Back seat in a 1983??...What do you guys know about this? I tried to figure out if some ingenious guy did it himself. But, it looked 100% original to the car??What is the deal with this. I asked the owner, he said he had no idea, it was just there. I thought maybe it was a car that was in some other country (ie Germany or Canada) and it wound up here in the states. I know , for example, that some of the canadian cars have washers for the head lites but rx7's sent to the states did not have'em. anyway...any GURU's out there who can shead some lite on this perplexing issue...thanks.....cjf

Tennis, anyone
Yep. the Aussies and the canada cars came with a back seat, and canada cars also came with the head light washer nozzles. back seat, pretty neat huh. To small to really do much. but still i think it's cool. IMO

all the first gens down here (New Zealand) have back seats fitted as factory. i never seen a 1st gen with compartments bins as fitted as factory here, but i have seen people make bins up for them. and they were factory for japan, new zealand and australia!

...and as useless as a left-handed hammer, judging by the size of 'em and the fact that the 2+2 1st gen had zero frame stretching to accomodate "passengers"...

The first rx-7 from 78 had them; it was a law by the Japanese government that the car had to have back seats to encourage car pooling because of the high traffic. But for some reason the American government said it was to be strictly a 2 seater car, not to sure what the reason was but that’s why you’s only have front seats..
There pretty small and useless, everyone that sits in mine want me to stop every 10 mins so they can stretch their legs to regain feeling..

umm yeah, all the aussie 1st gens have back seats, and like said the american rear impact crash tests were failed, so the bacl seats were removed and some bracing implemented instead.
lol, you guys think its nice to have a back seat? and heres me thinking of taking mine out.

I've seen two 1st gens with backseats here in the US, and when I ripped the storage bins out of my 82 I found these...
Perhaps dealer-installed option?

hey guys, any chance I could ghet some pics posted of what the storage ins you guys get in the back of your cars look like?
wouldnt mind getting some factory storage bins if I remove my rear seat, the only storage bins I have seen in a first gen are fabricated and take up way too much room, interfere with seat adjustability.

My car, 1982 RX-7 GX - Canadian model came fully loaded with AC being an option. The headlight washers were cool looking but useless. You could order, at the time, an option for a back seat which they called a +2 option. The back seats were really only big enough for 2 small kids or a pet dog. I didn't have the option +2 seats so the storage bins were modified to house the 4 sub woofers that is part of the sound system.
Just thought I would share this. Also, after some checking I found out that my car was part of a limited produciton shipped to Canada with the Formula White exterior and Tan interior, Leather, Moon Roof with a 12A. I purchased my car back in the fall of 1982. It was produced half way through the 1982 year. I've since modified it and it looks, runs and sounds fabulous. I like it and that's all that counts.
