oil pump chain question ????
Okay i have a question about my 81. If the oil pump chain breaks will it seize up the engine from cranking over? I've stripped down my engine so now its a block by its self in the engine bay of the car. I've looked down the hole where the rotor cap goes because i've taken that out and can see the chain i've put something down the hole to move the chain and it seems really loose but i can't tell if its broken. I've been saving up money to buy a air gun in order to remove the bolt that holds the front cover in place. Do rx7's have timing chains???

Hi.
I wouldnt advise cranking the engine without the oil pump.It wont really seize, but it does do some damage to the internals
The Rotary engines made after 1972 dont have tensioners.(Both 12A,and 13B)The only way to be sure if the chain is within specs,is to remove the front cover, and measure the qauntity that it is able to deflect when you press it by hand.
Nope,no timing chains!
