I have a question about an issue I have discovered. I have an 85 Rx7 GS, the problem looks like a leak on the front of the engine, passenger side just above the pan. I see a very slow drip coming off next to where the oil bolt plug is. I can see the stream coming from above the pan. It seems to drip every few minutes. Looks like its coming up behind the belt area or below the water pump. Its saturated around there all around the pan. My oil level is full though, did a change a month ago. I started using lucas stop leak with 10/40 and the driveway doesnt look as bad from the leak. I had the dreaded oil cooler leak and fixed the O rings last fall and it has dryed up completely on the drivers side. I also noticed today a little smoke now and then coming off the exhaust manifold. I assume its the oil leaking in the area and getting on the header pipes causing the smoke, cause nothing is coming out the tail pipe. I just wanted some opinions at what it might be. I was reading through the forums and can only think of the metering pump or front case cover. Am I on track with that assumption?

I had a bad mop leak new gasket and lines for me and pronlem fixed same location also

 

I suspect it might be the OMP myself. The drip comes down above the oil pan up from the water pump area and it drips right next to the oil bolt closer to the radiator. On the Lucas stop leak subject, I have read through here and read alot of guys use the regular lucas, or the stop leak to their oil. Seems like it is a mixed debate over weather lucas products work with our cars or not. I chose to give it a go and try it out. A few of my tech friends love lucas products and always reccomend them to me.

 

The stop leak is designed to mix with the oil and condition dried/tired seals to soften up and expand a bit, in attempt to stop the leak. It doesn't work like the radiator stop leak with sediment in it to "clog" leaks like blood platelets.

Long story short: Oil stopleak = good, Coolant stop leak = BAD

 

I just looked under the hood and its definately the OMP leaking. I spotted where the two hard lines are from the carb and found the OMP. It was all saturated around it and when I went to touch underneath I got fresh oil on my fingers. That would explain the little smoking from the engine when coming to a stop from driving from the oil dripping out and getting blown on the manifold causing smoke. I already ordered a rebuild kit from pineapple racing. While I am waiting for it to arrive is it alright to still drive the car for a little ride while it is still leaking? Also, when the car is running do the lines to and from the OMP turn dark to show oil is being pumped through?

 

not to hijack - but think oil stop leak is a decent idea to attempt to "restore" tired oil control rings? I'm generally against using that stuff....but you never know.
