Oil leak (front of engine)
Right before I went back to work last time I started my baby up. She's a 1981 GS w/about 110,000 miles. Initially all was okay, then I saw what looked like dust blowing out of the engine compartment (did I mention it had been a while since last starting?). When I got out to look closer I realized it was oil being blown out by the fan. I shut it down immediately, took a quick look over things but nothing became readily apparent for the cause. I didn't have enough time then to dig into it.
I did some thinking about it while gone and I figure my front main oil seal is gone, given the amount of oil that was being blown about. From my research I see it isn't a huge amount of work, I am more interested in input from anyone who has done this on any additional work I should do while it is apart so I can order all the parts at once. If anyone should happen to know part numbers that would be a help too, I can go to my online parts source that way.

first find the cause of the leak before you go ordering parts. check the oil cooler hoses for leaks and also check the cooler for leaks for good measure. you'll want to inspect the front cover gasket for seepage as its a common leaking point, especially on the right side of the engine. also pay close attention to the oil metering pump an dlines. you may have a faulty line near the fan and the fan could be sucking up the oil and blowing it back periodicaly. best thing to do is degrease the engine and the oil cooler and lines and start the engine and look for the leak.

What you most likely have is either a front seal, or a oil pump leak ,or a front oil pump cover gasket leak wash it down and drive a short distance then recheck for oil also make sure one of your oil inj hoses did'nt come off at the pump as well

You know what they say about that, making an *** out of you and umption!
The front oil seal is not a common leak at all.
The more common in this case as My fellow mod has already listed is to check the oil cooler hoses as they are prone to failure.
First clean the area completely then look for the leak.
