oil cooler lines a "pita" big time!! pics
not that the oil cooler is out and i'm thinking about getting another one or getting it fixed. i tried to finish getting the fittings off of the oil lines, but the freaking things are extremely hard to come off. I got one off from the line that attaches to the back of the engine, and i noticed that it doesn't have any type of o ring or crush washer. is it supposed to? this is where the oil was coming from or it looked like it was coming from here's a pic:
and here's the front oil line that i couldn't get it in a good place to remove the fitting:
this is turning into a nightmare, i just got the car and havn't been able to drive the freaking thing. so frustrating!!
Direcfreak, i know your a big rotary fan in Miami. I'm in Miami too and i just got this car off of ebay. If you see this and can help me out let me know, i'll pay someone to go to my house and finish up this freaking job. I swear if I had a garage I'd do it myself.

Burning Oil-Grinding 3rd
your turning the wrong part and do not have the correct tools.
Hold the fitting still while turning the part connected to the line. Also go get a Full Metric set.

I also normaly take out the Fan, Rad, and Shroud to work on this.

it is a pain!! i have been working on mine for a week.. it started leaking bad so i thought it was the lines.. i spent $60 on some new ones and found it was the cooler its self.. i coudent find one ANYWHERE.. but the guy across the street had one sitting in his shop..so i got that and have been trying to get it in for 3 days now..

The part I have found to be hard it the Line going into the front cover, The rest is easy with the right tools.

Yes;
Get a new set of Copper Crush Washers.
Look in your local phone book and find a Fastner Company or any Hydro Hose Shop.
Make sure you take your fittings with you cause they are 2 different sizes.
When I had my Oil to Air Cooler SS Lines made to convert the under oil filter garbage (Best setup ChangeOver for real Oil Cooling) i.e. 80 Rad and Lower Oil Cooler into a 84GSL I did not put washers on and ended up with Oil Leaks at the fittings.
Installed New Crush Washers and no Leaks to be found.
Cost for 4 of them $2.90US. Total
Just so you know, if you are running the Under Radiator-Oil Cooler, when you removed those Hoses they came stock with the Crush Washers.
At least all 6 of my past FB's had them.
Never use the Old Washers.

to get the oil line off of the front cover , first the line has to be removed from the cooler then take a 24 or 22 mm one of those, box ended wrench and slide it over the cooler side fitting all the way down to the front cover line fitting.
copper or aluminum crush washers, either will work.

i took off the shroud, fan, radiator and battery. then i took off the front oil line(wasn't that bad actually) now i have to get under the car to take off the rear one. i also went to the dealer and got me a new set of washers 2 brass for the cooler part and 2 aluminum for the engine part. now i need 2 new lines and then i'll put it back together..i'll post some pics later ..

You can do the lower one from the top, Just crawl up into the car. Put The wrench on the fitting and hold it with your foot. put the one on the line and pull.

i think i did something like that in a game of twister...lol
actually, i'm all done. i didn't have to change the lines, i found out that the cooler was in fact cracked and a local rotary guy had a spare for 100 bucks. i put it all together and the leak is gone!! hooray...!!

By the way, I was also going to say to be careful of those crush washers as when I took my fittings off I didnt think there were any either, but it turned out they were stuck to the engine, and the built up sludge around them made them just look like part of the block. I popped em off there with a putty knife. Glad to hear you got it back together with no leaks though! Awesome! Its such a relief to know your vehicle doesnt leak anything, lol.

thanks t.j. yeah i noticed that the crush washers stuck to the engine...i took them off but wonder what would happen if you had 2 crush washers...hmmm. now i'm onto my next problem check the new listings...it's a high idle problem. -you gotta love these cars to put up with this ****- !@#$!
