Oil Cooler leaking

So my oil cooler is leaking like a biatch lately and it's gotta be replaced. Question is how easy is it to do and how much for a new part or a second hand one? I've got an 85 so the cooler is right under the oil filter, not under the radiator. Anything I should look out for/replace while I'm doing this?

Normally its just the o'rings underneath, like down under mate, lol. Pretty simple to do.
Remove the cooler lines, filter, etc, you will seee as you do it. rx7doctor

LOL.....down under mate. Oh man it's 2004 and the country still can't shake that ****! haha

How much to replace the O rings? I was gonna:

- replace hoses first. If that doesn't work
- Get 2nd hand cooler and install
- Check o rings.

just be carefull not to bend the hard lines from the cooler. now would be a good way to switch to a oil-to-air cooler, btw (79-83 models)
if you really want to keep the oil-to-water cooler, then it probable like rx7doctor says: replace the o-rings.

O'rings are inexpensive, replacing the hoses at the same time would be a good idea even though coolant, not oil goes thru them. Don't get anothe rcooler until you try the o'rings.
You can spray it all off with degreaser, then verify where it is coming from. Oh, by the way
flying me over to fix it for you would be expensive, have not been back there in 25 years.
Spent two months doing absolutely nothing and loving it. rx7doctor

Hi

I just replaced the o rings on my 85 today. The only problem I found was clearance getting at the 10mm nuts that hold the oil cooler on at the bottom. I bought a new 10mm spanner (at Supercheap for $1.00) and cut it in two for the operation - made the job a little easier with a shorter "handle". Mine has aircon lines in the way. Priced the coolant hoses from Mazda Australia. $17 for the small lower one, $50 for the top.
