Odd holley 600 fuel leak.

Well, after breaking off a base plate.... i found another one which happened to work.

all was well and going fine and dandy other then an odd problem with my fuel pump, it wasnt grounded so well so it would randomly cut off thus, leaving me stranded frequently.

well after getting it grounded, i cranked the car over and it had a rough time starting, i figured the plugs, so as i was going to look at the plugs i left my fuel pump on and noticed an odd fuel leak coming from the carb itself, right underneath the throttle shaft.

i thought it was the baseplate again, well after installing a NEW baseplate i ordered from RB ( great help, brian is a cool guy )it was still leaking, so i cant tell if its due to baseplate, or the throttle shaft is leaking, has anyone ever had this happen?

this is THE only thing keeping ym car from running, it has been down for 2 months now.

i would hate for it to be something simple and me having it down for so long.

as for now, im in hte midst of saving for a new 600 from RB and startign all over again.

it would just be nice if i could get an answer before shelling out 600 bucks for a new carb.

my fuel setup is a mallory 4070m with NO fpr ( supposably the mallory is pushing 7psi ) which i was told is perfect for the setup.

my one guess is that i may be pushing too much fuel pressure and causing the fuel to force its way through the throttle shaft.

thanks in advance for the help.

Sounds to me that you should get a FPR. I don't recall what fuel pressue the Holley likes. I am not a carb guy. Hopefully someone else will give some input.

the 600 holley's like around 6psi, i would get an FPR in the mix and try different pressure.

Even if your Mallory has an internal bypass set at 7 psi, your running a little too much fuel pressure. Since the Holleys usually don't run a return line, and I'm assuming you aren't, you may be building up a lot more pressure than you think. Get a decent fpr and gauge, I think you will find the pressure is too high.

God bless you all, i get paid friday and will do so, ive missed my car SO bad, but money is tight at the moment as ive just aqquired a fiance ( rings cost TOO much ).

i will fill you all in on how that goes friday, allso, ive heard a myth that if you turn a carb upside down you can ruin the floats.

needless to say, ive turned it upside down to install a new baseplate.

Well i went and picked up an inline mechanical fuel gauge and wow, i was pushing 13psi of fuel through a 6psi carb, fuel was sprayign from the throttle shaft as before, and as well as the top adjustment screw on the primary float.

i guess its tiem to get a FPR and lower to 6psi and see if the leaking from the float is just over-pressurization, or if the float is stuck or damaged.

if damaged, i guess it give me a good excuse to go with the rb center pivot floats.

thankls holley, bastards, who wants to buy a gsl-se and just throw a new holley 600 on it, im so damn sick of it all.

im going to sell and start over with another 7

sounds like when you were running the insane amount of fuel pressure you probably messed up the needle/seats. i don't blame you for being frustrated, but this could have happened on ANY carb given the circumstances.

i replaced the needle and seat, no biggie right, but now i sitll have that stupid leak, a rising fuel pressure, even with the fpr....

on top of that, im getting NO fuel into the primary float somehow, i took off the line and chec kit, it flows fine, took the bowl off, fuel was in it, but its not coming through into the chamber....

garrrr so sick man, im not too smart about carbs, so i dotn want to touch it anymore...

i may sell it, or just buy a new holley 600 from RB

damn bro, i'm sorry. i honestly do understand how aggrivating it can be. it took me forever to figure out what works best in getting an off shelf holley to run smooth on a rotary........BOOSTED at that.

in a situation like yours, where you aren't too sure of what's going on/ what to do to sort the problem... the RB version could be your savior. it is a slap on and go affair. from there i would highly suggest some more tuning, but it will definitely get you up and going.

good luck and don't give up!

well, since you say even with the fpr you go from 6 to 13. i'd have to say that fpr is crap. take it back, get another one. get one with 2 outlets so you can run a return line. helped mine out tremendous. i run 8-9 psi on mine. now with the leak out of the throttle shaft, i'd say the seal is screwed. i've hit 15psi just yesterday on mine when i was reinstalling the fuel pump. no leak out the shaft, just over through the barrels. do a quich easy rebuild. make sure you get the little plstic sleeves that go over the shaft. that should solve any problems but tuning afterwards. don't give up, not worth it.

Ok, went downstairs fed up and messed with the pump itself, reset the internal bypass on the mallory and voila.... 7psi, steady...

last ditch effort for now, going to go ahead and get a new holley 600 from rb.

just drop that on and see where to go from there..

i try and try, but i cant give up on the fb apparently.

its just cheaper to get mine running, repaint and make it mint as compared to buying an m3 or TT
