Not sure what to do?

I’m 21 and my dad gave a 1980 Mazda Rx7 LS as a graduation present and to replace my old vehicle. And I don’t know if I should sell it for a year around car, or just buy junker for the winter. The Rx7 only has 64,000 miles on it. It has three rust spots the size of a quarter. That’s all cosmetically there is nothing else wrong with this car. Is don’t know any thing about Rx7’s so I’m trying to just get some others responses on this issue. I called some insurance companies to get quotes and it ranged from $45 a month to $250. I could not give them too much info because I don’t know anything about this car. Please let me know if there is some website that I can visit that will tell me everything from the MPG to the engine size just for some basic info.

Thanks: Chris

To start keep the car if its in really good condition ... and thats really low miles for that year, The car has a 1146cc engine (1.1L) stock horse power was around 105 at the flywheel but can easily be increased with a few changes (racing beat exhaust, ported carb or new carb will easily yeild another 50 as a combo) as far as mpg .. well that depend on how heavy your foot really is .. i think that alot of people including myself average about 14-15 miles to the gallon ... i can see about 18-19 ifi don't red line it at all ... the 79 and 80 models are becoming more desireable as they are getting really rare and they are the lightest of them all. On this forum you can prob get as much help as you can get, the crew here is really friendly as long as you don't start talking about piston engines. well hopefully you'll keep your ride show us some pictures, and welcome to the forum.

New guys have to post pics. If the car is in that good of shape, fix the rust spots and find a winter beater to preserve the car.

Welcome to the Club.
