Not even crank the engine!

Hi you all!

I once again need some help! My 84 "5 letters" do not even crank the engine. When I turn the key to the on position every thing works but not the starter. Friday mornig when i was getting ready to go start the engine and die, sometimes I have to crank the engine 2 times befor the engine start this is normal in my car, but friday it did't start nothing. You can hear the injector but no cranking.

I check the battery, and is ok! All the other electrical component seems ok. Fuse box check, no blow fuse. Check the swich with as instructed in the heynes book and is ok.

Any suggestion?

Possibly a bad starter solenoid or starter. If the starter eventually turns after alot of key turns, then its the solenoid. Both are available as a remanufactured unit for around $75 from your local auto parts store.

I assume you've tried to jump the car?

check the signal wire on the starter. It's common for them to vibrate/fall off.

You need to check all the main wires for corrosion and if they're loose. Battery terminals will sometimes do this too. I had the same problem way back when I first got my car and I had some corrosion on the starter wires, just mess with them with they battery DISCONNECT! PLease do that first, I cannot stress enough.

The other Wrech-hands are right on.
Wires from the battery to the starter are either corroded or burnt up. Either way, check
'em and fix em. You may indeed need a starter, and they will run priced as stated.

Good luck, Tenderfoot...
