Noob looking for some help regarding 13bt engine conversion.

G'day from Australia guys,

Now I know there will be some threads on here about this, but for me it'd be so much easier to have my own thread to just ask questions and not hijack other peoples' threads.

Anyway, I bought a 1979 Rx7 series 1 shell the other day with everything in it except the engine and gearbox. Now I was thinking of just going 12a bridgeport but I really want to go 13bt from a series 4. Now I can get the engine+gearbox for a pretty good price but is it quite hard to put one of the series 4 13b turbo engines in + gearbox?

I've heard from some people that all you need to do is get a custom manifold so the engine doesn't sit too far from the left, but I would love if someone has done this conversion.

I'm no mechanic but I do know the basics and I have a few friends who are mechanics and are 100% happy to help me. I will be putting new suspension and brakes on it after the engine is in etc to make her a little bit safer.

So yeah, has anyone done this conversion? Do I need different mounts or is it a pretty basic conversion?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, a kinda step by step thing would be great.

Please help me weigh up my options.

P.S I have plenty of time and access to engine cranes and plenty of tools.

Thanks guys,
Mark

Well, I understand that you want to start your own thread. However, you are asking us to rewrite all of the information that has already been covered before, just for you... You might want to reconsider using the search function to cover the basics, then if you run into something that you don't understand post your specific question. Good luck, and welcome to the forum.

THe manifold does need to be changed in order to clear the steering box.

I would also suggest the search button as there are countless threads on doing the swap and pretty much everthing you need to know is covered.
