Oh no, a pissing contest against Sterling!

Richer solenoid opens the richer jet on decelleration on cars with M/T. There, happy?

My point is it has been covered before, and once the name for it is given, it is easy to search and find out.

Seems like it's just as easy for the person that knows the answer to give the answer...just my $0.02

no, it isn't 64. If people would use the FAQ and do searches more often, much duplicated traffic would be avoided. There is already an immense amount of info on almost anything that you can think of in regards 1st gens in this section. Why would a n00b come in and ask

"My car won't start, what should I do?"

"Is there a way to modify a Nikki for better performance?"

"What is the best oil to use in my engine?"

"Can I turbo my 12A?"

This thread I consider valid (to some degree as there are manuals that can be accessed online to describe just about every part and function on a 7) but once the name for the part is given, doing a search will provide information on function and purpose for that part.

True cdrad, but do you remember when you were a noob and didn't even know the correct questions to ask sometimes? And even when you do, you can do a search, and then another search, and then another search, and on and on, until finally, maybe you can piece together the answer you're looking for. Then again maybe not. In this case, I'm sure the answer could have been found fairly easily with a search. Then again maybe not. I guess my point is, you're never going to stop people from asking questions from being asked that have been asked and answered before. So, in the name of making it easy for everyone, especially newbies, why not just give the answer when you know it? Or just ignore the post?

Anyway, didn't mean to thread-jack...just on my soapbox a little bit...

Yes I clearly remember when I was a n00b because I still am! but I SEARCH before I ask. That's all. And I encourage and will continue to encourage others to do the same. That's all.

And btw, enter "richer solenoid" in the search function, and you will see the answer, which ironically was written by Sterling a while back. I rest my case.

First, relax... its an internet forum, you are not fighting crime.

Second, I did a search on richer solenoid... 28 post came up... most of them, confused me.

Some of us are on dial up, we dont have the time and connection to figure a few things out. As you said, theres manuals... I´ve been trying to install acrobat reader for 2 days now, but I keep losing the connection and it takes about an hour here to download 8 megas.

Somethimes you dont need to be an ***, just give a hand.

If you dont like a post, just ignore it, you are generating more bandwith use with the several posts that DIDNT help on this thread than what it takes to answer "Richer solenoid opens the richer jet on decelleration on cars with M/T. There, happy?" And btw, thanks for that.

PS: I still dont know what to do with it

PS II: I read the whole faq, plus everything I could find on "car wont start" and I did several of the adviced procedures.

For once, dont be a whining internet wiseass

But cdrad has a bit of a point.

It wouldn't be so damned hard to conduct a decent search on this forum if I didn't get so many junk threads every time I searched that were created by people who didn't even read the FAQ.

Now honestly, I don't expect in this situation for someone to be able to figure out whatthefuck almost any part of the Nikki is on their own, unless they really try. But in the case of things answered in the FAQ, it's a pain. The reason we created and continue to maintain the FAQ and the Archive is so that people can have a "first resource" to try and use to find their answers before they come needlessly cluttering up the section with posts on "what spark plugs should I use?".

xlr8planet, if it looks like something that screws in with one electrical wire going to a white connector in the middle of the passenger's side, then yes you're looking at the richer solonoid. Somewhere in one of Sterling's articles in the Archive I believe he mentions a tendancy of cars without this plugged in to flood more easily. Also in the archive (should be in the FAQ but I haven't put it there) you can find the Nikki manual. That PDF should doubly-confirm what we're talking about, but doesn't really offer any explanation as to it's use or purpose unless you are planning on getting your degree on air/fuel flow dynamics

My call: plug it in. If your car starts acting funny after and never did before with it unplugged, then unplug it again. Go with what works

Jon

Dang... my last post was a late one. Well for the connectionally challenged unfortunate few who are relegated to dial-up, I guess PDF files suck the big one.

Sorry xlr8planet... Just trying to make my previous point because this is as good a place as any to recap it. Not saying that you didn't read the FAQ or the Archive, or that you didn't try, just telling everyone that they should remember to try

I'll be the first to admit that the search function can be a bitch around here.. especially since the forum's major changes took place.

HI vipernicus

Just finished downloading ADOBE 5 (way less than the 27 megas the 7 is)

A quick overview of the carbmanual.pdf file (a friend gave it to me in a cd) showed that the richer solenoid had no influence if it had no power. Seems to let the fuel flow if power is applied to it.

Anyways, I do remember to have a black wire there, but no white.

Also, my weird car is an FB body, labeled SA for the rest of the world, but the carburator if uses a rich solenoir seems to be a 79/80, not an 81

Am I right? not sure...

the 81 seems to have a diferent device

As to the people saying "Search this, FAQ that"

He couldn't have searched for this. If he just searches "NIKKI" he will come up with HUNDREDS of responses, and have to dig through each and every one!

Now, if he KNEW it was the richer solenoid, he could have searched that, but he said even THAT was confusing.

I myself STILL haven't downloaded the carbmanual. Why? Because my DIALUP keeps fubarring the download. Therefore, it is useless to me.

Are you trying to help people with their carbs, or impress them with your vast knowledge? When you don't know the answer, you come off like an condescending egomaniac by telling them to search, and call them a "nOOb".

I tell people to search all the time. But I don't attempt to belittle them in the process.

Ya *****.

I´ve never seen a first gen running. A saw a few on the highway, but never upclose.

From that you can figure out I dont even know the way they are supposed to idle

recording him a video clip won't do much good he's on dialup and it will take him a week to download it. and if this helps there's a post not too far down that describes how to adjust your carb if you follow that and set the curb idle to spec than you should be just fine.

and as for the search function: I don't mind seeing some people asking the same question that has been already been answered for the simple reaon of somebody else MIGHT reply with more information or new information that hasn't already been covered. And as for people being n00b if you go by my join date and my total posts most would call me a n00b BUT I have been racing RX's since before most of you couild drive and before there was a easily accessible public internet to look for information and had to learn it all the hard way.
