NGK and Bosch wire set?

NGK and Bosch wire set?

Are the made by the same company? The reason I'm asking is that I ordered a set of NGK spark plug wires (ZE97A) from Autozone. When they came up in the computer it showed NGK/Bosch. Today I pick them up and its a set of Bosch wires. I asked the guy if they were the same as the NGK's and he said yes.

Is this correct?

not correct. Bosch is a German company and NGK hails from Japan. two completely seperate companies. the guy at autozone is extremely mistaken. i picked up a new set of NGK wires from napa today. here are some pics of the NGK wires:

first pic is of the box that the wires came in. has the part number and the stock number:

no. ngk wires are ngk wires. bosch is bosch. sounds like autozone supplies either one as the same thing.

I've always considered Bosch to be of high quality... Not sure of their plug wires specifically though. I've used them before without issue, but never on a rotary...

I think I'll just take the Bosch back and get the NGK's. Makes sense to use a Japanese plug and wire set in a Japanese car.

Usually Bosch isn't that bad, but there have always been several problems with spark plugs from Bosch in japanese cars. Happens not to everyone, but really often.

I've run Bosch wires on my car as well as two of my friends' cars. I can't tell a difference from the NGK wires.

PLUGS make a difference, I'd never go anything but NGK there, but wires aren't that different, at least with Bosch

Probably would have been fine, but I took them back anyway and ordered the NGK's from O Rileys. If my car started messing up, I would have blamed the wires ans replaced them anyway at some point down the road.

I recently bought some Magnecores from Mazdatrix. Really nice looking wires and well built. I have used Magnecores on many cars before......great product!

no prob Rob. the NGK wires are the oem wire set that originally came on the RX-7 so i try and stick with all oem parts. all of my restorations are done using oem parts. rarely do i use aftermarket parts. i will use aftermarket parts for things such as brake pads some rotors, brake shoes, radiator hoses when need be and in a pinch. i have found that oem parts last much longer and are better quality.

I've been running Bosch wires for the past year now and no issues with them. If anything they feel a little bit more robust than the NGK's ... but then again I'm comparing to a stock set, not sure how a new one would be.

I think I may have inadvertently fixed my tach that still does not work in the morning, but had got very jumpy also during the day. It would work, then click and go to 0, work, click and go to 0 several times while driving.

Well, a couple days ago when I got my 13/16 socket, I decided to just see how much room I had to get the top plug right below the beehive. I pulled the wire and after almost stripping the thing, it broke loose. During this, I noticed the tip that screws onto the plug was also loose. I tightened it up and yesterday my tach did not jump around any at all. May its fixed, hope so.

Still does not work in the mornings, even today 61 degrees, and it does not work, but I guess I can live with that.

actually thats not true.

the factory wires are yazaki. they are black with color coded boots

NGK is what mazda supplies in north america

i'm not sure about countries other than the U.S. but i'm pretty darn sure that NGK is the oem wire on all SA/FB's. the original NGK sets supplied on the 1st gens have blue boots as opposed to the newer style black boots. the reason i know this is that i bought my 80 LS from the original owner and nothing other than the oil, coolant, tires and clutch were ever touched. it had the original NGK wires, which i've still got. i changed them for a new set of NGK wires. i've never seen a Yazaki wire set on an RX-7.

Yazaki, eh? I always wondered why I always saw blue and black boots on engines pictured in articles from yesteryear but never in real life.

the blue boots are from early sets of NGK wire sets. the black boots are the newer style, perhaps dating back 10 years.. never saw a Yazaki wire set on a 7.

Yeah those black/blue Yazaki wires are pretty common down here in 'bama, every 1st gen i ever bought had them, apparently the blue is color code for trailing ignition. Even the coil supply wires have black/blue coded boots. I always thought they were NGK though--gee the stuff you learn on these forums.

pics would be cool as i have never seen the yazaki set. perhaps different years had differnt wires. i can tell you though that my 80 LS came with NGK wires originally.

I replaced my plugs yesterday, still waiting on my NGK wires, and my plugs were a medium tan color where they fire. Is this the color they should have been?

this wire set came off of a 60k 82 rx7. the wires have never been off the cap. i seem to have cleaned all the writing off of this set, but i do have others
