next mission --- transmission

hey guys , the tranny in my 81 gs is making alot of noises and has a hard time getting into 2nd and back into first , i was going to put a better clutch in and a nice pressure plate . but with this problem i was wondering ... since i have a spare gsl-se trany ... can i put that in place of the one i have with little effect to drivability ? or should i replace the one i have with the same type ?
just wondering because i would like to rebuild it regardless .

The se tranny is a stronger trans and would fit in their perfectly. Depending on what year the SE trans is it might have a taller 5th gear yet still have good lower gears.
