newbie needs a little help pls

Newbie needs a little help pls
This saturday I will be buying an 82 RX-7 assuming that the body is as good as the guy says. $100, why not? This is my first rotary engine and of course this one doesn"t start. It cranks over like it wants to start but only hiccups and backfires. Can ANYONE tell me what to check before I pay $50 for a 10 mile tow? Anyone? Please? help

it sounds like you have spark and fuel so the next thing i would check is the timing. im new to rx7 so i dont know to set the timing at.

Marvel Mystery oil, souble check you are getting enough fuel, pull off the fuel line, put it in a bottle, and turn the key on, and maybe turn over the engine ( some rx's only turn the fuel pump on when cranking) and see that it fill up the bottle in about 10 secs. If not then a fuel filter is cloged or pump is bad. you cant really check the timming unless it is running. Hope you get it to fire up!!

you can play with the timing a little. see if the marks are still there and line them up by hand, then check to see if the rotor is in the right spot or not. if its way off turn it around again and check. also check if the plug wires are on right. sometimes they get reversed. good luck.
