Newbie with basic questions

I've been a rota fanatic for years now, but have only recently realised that I don't need to pay some rip off mechanic to do basic services and tune ups.

There is heaps I don't know though, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have an immaculate Red series 2 Rx 7 with gold simmons om mags. It has a decomp 13b from a series 4 with standard 12a carb, sports exhaust as well but otherwise completely standard.

What I would like to know is.

1. How do I tune the carb? Can I just leave the setting done by mechanics forever?

2. Can you use any timing gun to adjust timing?

3. How do I replace trans fluid?

4. What spark plugs should I use?

I think thats all I need to know. Sorry if the questions seem stupid. I am mechanically minded but have never been shown how to do these basic things.

Cheers.

2. Yes, any timing gun will work.
3. Don't know, havn't had to do it yet.
4. I'd only use NGK, also use NGK plug wires.

Thanks! I had no idea there was an Aussie forum!

Probably should have searched more instead of joining the first one I found!

Ah, good ol' precision tool: the rubber mallet... I don't know where I'd be w/o mine. Brake pads won't come off? rubber mallet? that last bolt on the nikki? rubber mallet... the 10inch extender I used to get to the bolts for the clutch release cyl won't grip properly? rubber mallet..

there are many turtorials on how to tune the Nikki here. Just run a search. You may even want to rebuild the carb if you got some cash, time, and interest. Just some food for thought.
