New tranny Mount

I just replaced my transmission mount with a new one and the difference is like night and day. Car is much smoother and more solid at all speeds, especially over 75.

If you're wondering what kind of shape yours is in, check the clearance between the front driveshaft u-joint and the exhaust heat shield. If you can't get a hand or finger in there, the mount may need replacing.

Mine was completely broken. The tranny was just resting loose on the cross member. Replacing the mount took less than an hour, including putting the car up on jack stands.

Around 30 bucks at Mazdatrix. VB has them a little cheaper, I think.

Hey

Did you have any roaring noise in any of the gears prior to replacing the mount?

What other problems did you notice?

Are the gears also smoother.......I am hoping that my problems are mount related and not my tranny....

I had a nasty roaring noise above 75 mph. Sounded like it coulda been coming from the engine or gearbox. It's gone now. What I didn't realize before, the roar was actually there at all speeds, just not so bad. When I first fired up the car after replacing the mount I could immediately tell the car was smoother, even idling in the driveway. I was pretty amazed.

I definitely need to replace mine then. My tranny is just free floating on the cross beam too. Maybe that's why I didn't bust anything up besides the exhaust when I ran over that parking curb
