New to rotary
Hey everyone I am new to working with rotary engines and I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on how to pull more power out of a stock 12A.
I got my '85 RX for free and I am looking to customize it with a wide body kit( as soon as I can find a nice one), 17 inch rims and tires, custom molded RX 8 tail lights, and side exhaust kit but I cant find anywhere that still has any info on getting extra power out of the 12A( want to keep it carb.) or after market parts that could help increase power. Also if anyone could advise me on a good racing suspension that would be helpfull.
thanks

Double welcome. We don't condone the actions of making the rotary and more powerful. It is a very complicated engine and cannot be made to make any more power.
good luck

If you want more power you need neon lights, they have always done the trick for me. You need lots of them... everywhere. Also, you'll probably want to go with at least 20" rims.

Seriously, though. Welcome to the forum. Search. You have next to an infinite amount of options to gain power. And post some pics of this freebie.

Well, now that we have thoroughly ragged on this guy, a little heads up for the noob.
This forum is full of information and you can get all the help you need, by following a few unwritten rules. 1. Spend some time reading the stickies at the top of the forum and take the responsibility to do some searching on your own. When you have a better understanding and can ask relevant questions, instead of asking to be spoon feed, post your questions. 2. You will find a strong anti-rice mind set here. If you want rice, visit an oriental eatery, or join the Honda forums.
With that said, welcome to an obsession.

see tht FAQ section. welcome. like carl said, dont worry about the hazing. its just a side exhaust, and rx-8 tail lights would make most of us puke. start with a racing beat exhaust and get an aftermarket carb (weber side draft) use a 2nd gen ignition, SE suspension, and a good maitnenance job should get you started.

Welcome to the forum.
If you are going to power up the 12A, there are at least three levels of improvement.
First bolt-ons only, in order of priority I would try, performance header and exhaust system, modify the Nikki or add some like a Weber 45 on an after market manifold, delete the rats nest and airpump[emission controls]. This will up power from 100 to 140hp. Lower the suspension 1 1/4 inches, decent wheels and tires.
Second, rebuild the engine with bigger ports, a street level shape will get 180hp, after that you can go more extreme up to a full race engine of 300hp. By then you will be at a Weber 48 level with more upgrades beyond level 1, but in most states it will be track only. By then you should be looking at light flywheel, heavy duty clutch and a GSL-SE backend. Improved ignition; better coils and wires should then be on the shopping list.
Third, add a Turbo at either level 1 or 2 , power would start at 150 upwards depending on your budget and end use. For this I suggest you look on www.rotaryshack.com for ideas.
Widebody will only give you looks until you are in the 300+hp league and need wider tires for traction.
Power costs money so its best to decide your budget and work backwards to what is best for why you want the modifications. Remember you will have an old engine which will need rebuilding before looking for great power increases. Another point is fuel consumption, a hot 12A will drink 6mpg
