New to Rotary
This is probably a dumb question, but I dont know much about carbs or rotarys...
First off, while at idle it sounds like it is missing, I have changed all the plugs, and still doing it...
Next when I stomp on the gas, it wants to stall out...
The car is a 85 non turbo, 12A, MSD ignition, Holley fuel pump, Holley fuel pressure regulater, Holley 650 carb...
I was told by the former owner that the jets in the carb are too large... The secondarys are unhooked right now... Also I am reading about 5PSI on the fuel pressure guage. I do not have a air/fuel mixture gauge, so it might be running too rich, and flooding when I hit the gas hard...
Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me...

I don't know too much about the holley carb's but I thought most people were running the holley 450 carb? Anyways if I was you I would first tear appart the carb and find out which jet sizes are currently in it and I would compare it to others with similar setups to get you in the ballpark range. Also for the a/f mixture get a wideband oxygen sensor bung welded after your header to give you a accurate range of the mixture... The stomping on the gas/stalling out is probally because your car is flooding which you seem to already know. What do the plugs look like after the car has been running for a while?
Remember:
black = fouling and rich
White = lean
tan color = good mixture
Also check that your timing is bang on this can also screw everything up when its off...

first off... the carb *could* be too large, but if a 600cfm double pumper can work great, then a 650 shouldn't be too far off. altho, unless it's being turbo charged i dont know why you would go that big
BUT since it's there now... yes. i'm sure you are going rich during the transition from cruise to WOT. what happens if you eeeaaase in to it? just slowly go to the full throttle say in... 3rd gear? does it still do this?
FIRST and foremost... get the complete jet kit. is this a 4150 model or 4160? i take it this has mechanical secondaries? is it a double pumper? this will help in defining your problem. there are some other holley guys on here that will probably chime in... good people i tell ya

I am not sure of the model number, I will check though. If you easy onto the gas, it runs like a bat out of hell... easing onto it throught first and second and it will break the tires loose shifting into 3rd. the only prob is, there is no way to take off from a stop fast cause it acts like it will die.
I have been reading a lot of posts, trying to decide what to do with the thing. The guy that had it did a lot of work to it, and I would like to keep going with it. BTW I dont know if it makes a difference, but the motor is an 84... I would like to turbo it, or do a roots style blower, but I am not sure what I need to do to get the motor ready for it. I am a noob to the rotary and I dont know what it takes to build them up, and still keep them reliable. Luckily, I dont live in a state with emission checks or inspections, so it leaves me pretty open for some good mods...
