its going to have the header problem all the new engines have and the exhaust tuning problem. i wish they would just put the ports back in the rotor housings instead of the side housing. all i have to say is D%# engineers
other wise id get one and not worry about it This engine is a pretty far cry from production, but it's exciting to see Mazda is still doing development on the rotary. That they're actually changing the dimensions and eccentricity of the rotors after 35 years is a huge development. |
I can't wait to see what they slap that baby into, I'd bet the HP for a fully modded 16X turbo are unreal.
|
Consider what the Renesis is currently doing with a turbo. If it has good numbers, the 16X will have even better numbers.
I'd prefer peripheral exhaust ports for driving a turbo, but that means taller apex seals etc. |
Damn thats a pretty motor and i thaught a 20b was badass 20b=2.1sec,
15a=1.2sec erection time achieved naturally asperated of course |
Anyone else excited to hear what this beast will sound like with a header? *drool*
|
It's thinner, but higher and wider.
A 1.6L, sweet. Thing might crank out 300bhp stock. Drop that in an FB, mod the hood and the tranny so that everything fits, redesign the wiring harness and you're good to go. It's all so simple. :rlaugh: |
|
i could see that car in a futuristic movie about space travel.. haha.
I still think the FD is the sexiest car that ever rolled out of Mazda's doors, and the FB most original and stylish.. I have nothing to say about the FC :( |
I'd take one of the rotors from that and wear it around my neck wif a chain and be gangsta with my Mazda Bling!

The oil coolant line comes off a funky looking pedestal for the renesis 13b, so I'd say this one is similar. I guess it filters the circulated oil better?

Or maybe it's an undrilled casting for a knock sensor. This can only mean turbo! Well, it could means SC too.
Robert pointed out the single oil hole under the pedestal. I think the incoming oil Ys apart at the dowel and half goes forward to the front bearing with the rest going down to the rear bearing. Since Mazda removed the oil banjo bolt at the lower corner on the NF01 and later engines, for more starter options, this makes sense. |
Hmmm. . . what about a 16X in an Ariel Atom . . . ?
Buzz :-) |
HEY I HAD THE IDEA FIrSt....it's true ask my friends...
|
Side port exhaust can blow me. They'd better not put that into a new RX-7.. I'll be pissed.
|
OMG! That is bad-ass! I had actually bought a shit-load of reamers off ebay searching for "16x". It is a 6-port, like the renesis, but the ports combine together in the front and rear housings. I wonder what the rotary valves look like...
|
wow.
|
holy schnit fatman!!!!
that is a beautiful engine...but that taiki car or whatever it is called looks like shit, imo. too much like a hyper car on a bad acid trip lol. man...i wish i could get one for christmas :crying: |

Wait Rotary valves?:shocking: Since when do Rotaries have valves?:Wconfused Wouldn't that imply a need for those imaginary camshafts? :P

The peripheral exhaust port is dead on street engines so everyone should just come to that realization. The side exhaust port is far superior for this application. Mazda Japan even wants to pursue side exhast ports in race engines. It's the americans that don't want to do this though.
Power numbers for the 16X will be somewhere around 270-280hp and 190 ft lbs of torque or so. The aux and secondary ports do not combine internally. |
do they say when production if any

Form factor is supposed to be the same as the present Renesis which means this thing could find its way into a production -8 without too much difficulty. Only worry I have at this point in time is that this thing has thinner coolant walls which I guess means even more craziness has to be dumped into the water pump, radiator, and the fans? |

Spot for the injector I think. Baby's gonna be DFI.

I hate how everyone (including media) talks about it as if they're going to be doing direct inject for gas, when in many of the pics you can still see the stock fuel injector spots very clearly and if you spend any time looking at mazda's documentation for the H2 Rx8 that is already out you see that the DFI injectors on top are for H2. As for the holes above the spark plugs, I have no idea. Knock sensor is as good a guess as any. I'm not sure what you mean by "same formfactor". If it came from the factory with the ability to bolt to a current Rx8 tranny that would rock, but something tells me they might not do it that way. If they did, it would possibly bolt to our tranny as well, with a clutch/pressureplate swap... we can only theorize until the damn thing is released. IF the damn thing is ever released. Jon |
Hmm... okay I'll eat my own words.
I would normally nuke my own post at this point but this is worth just saying I'm an idiot. Ray Green's link actually says "Mazda has developed the first Direct Injection system for a gasoline rotary engine based on its direct injection system currently used in the Hydrogen rotary engine" ... Doesn't explain why the engine in the showcase has fuel injectors in the usual location as well as injectors on top that *look* like hydrogen injectors... but Mazda's site wouldn't lie, would it?
