I love this new engine. It's everything I wanted in a 15A, and then some.

I see a whole slew of "how can I put a 16X in my car" threads coming in the near future...

I don't blame them. I want one. Of course it won't bolt to our tranny like pretty much every other rotary since the 1970s... So you'll need to either custom fab an adapter or take the tranny with you as part of the conversion...

It looks like the only real way to do this one is the way the guys in japan did the renesis swap - take EVERYTHING with you and custom fab whatever you need. Not going to be easy or cheap... but would be VERY cool to have an FB that could put out more than 250hp N/A and still pass emissions.. not that I need those.

Plus you can't go wrong with an all-aluminum engine, seriously :)

its going to have the header problem all the new engines have and the exhaust tuning problem. i wish they would just put the ports back in the rotor housings instead of the side housing. all i have to say is D%# engineers

Agreed. We, as rotorheads, already know how to change coolant and not let our engines overheat. An all aluminum engine makes sense.

Couple things to note. I don't know if it's a 4 or 6 port. I can't trll with the pictures. Also, notice right above the spark plugs, does that look like a spot for a possible 3rd spark plug? That would be cool as hell to have 3 rows of plugs like the 787B!

Or maybe it's an undrilled casting for a knock sensor. This can only mean turbo! Well, it could means SC too.

Robert pointed out the single oil hole under the pedestal. I think the incoming oil Ys apart at the dowel and half goes forward to the front bearing with the rest going down to the rear bearing. Since Mazda removed the oil banjo bolt at the lower corner on the NF01 and later engines, for more starter options, this makes sense.

I don't care what they put it in, I hope it's a 2 seater sport, but I'll buy one rip everything out put it in my 7 and have an electric put in the old shell to make use of it!
If it's a 2 seater that looks sexy like a first gen then I'll keep it as is.

On the 16X: Has anyone given thought to reshaping a 13B port to that of the 16X? Talking primary intake ports obviously, as the exhaust have been moved to the intermediate plate. Looks like an odd peak mid stroke compared to the curvalicious ports we're accustomed to. I'd love to see what they've done with the secondaries and auxiliaries. Also, what about the front plate? Seems like the rear rotor might have some added intake charge heating from the exhaust port shoved in underneath it, unless both front and rear plates have them, which would mean the center port is shared by both rotors...

On the general public as displayed in the linked thread: Amazing, going on 30 years of development, production, and improvement; having been applied to 10 or more Mazda vehicles; having proven themselves in the racing world; and people still don't know a damn bit about these engines.

"The apex seals are the weak point" my ass.

I've seen in person and read about more engines suffering coolant and oil seal issues than apex problems, and even then, most of the apex problems came from people adding an MBC and turning their boost pressure up, then cracking a seal because they ran without any fuel support.

@legokcen: If you're referring to the threaded hole above the trailing plug, I believe that would be a knock sensor hole. If you mean the blank boss above the knock sensor hole, I'm not quite sure an extra plug would work there without rendering the current trailing plug useless.

I saw this info awhile ago and love it. I think this engine will be awesome. I would love to have a 250hp first gen like jon said, that passes emissions. lol.

I just imagine all the birds that choke to death on my gas fumes and then read that this latest rotary qualifies as a "low emissions vehicle" even in cali...

I wonder with the larger stroke if this engine will rev as high as the previous renesis.

That engine would suit a rotary truck. More torque; less emissions. Mazda could bring back the B1600 and call it the B16X lol.

Fantastic! Well at least we know Mazda is truly commited to the rotary going into the future. I like the long stroke, now we'll get some good low end torque. I am also a bit concerned with the exhaust ports, but we'll see.

Larger displacement, direct fuel injection, rotor housing and side housing are now aluminum....this is truly an exciting improvement for mazda's continued dedication to the Rotary.
