New project. 85 gsl-se
About three months ago my uncle called the house with "good news" which usually ment he either found a parts car or somthing of similar importance. The next day my father tell me that he found a 85 gsl-se junker that he's gonna use for parts for $400. After a bit of struggle I convinced my father to let it go only to surprise him with the car on his birthday as his next project. Since then the car was moved to my backyard and has been parked there ever since.
Shitty red interior
Burnt some of the wiring under the driver's side dash in some sort of electrical fire
Blown Motor (due to over heating)
Black chipping/peeling paint is useless
No rust. Anywhere
Everything else was fine, and for $400 it was a steal
So this morning I began to try and free the engine from the enginebay (of wires ect so I can get it out and eventually rebuild it) and was overwelmed with how many wires and how complicated FI is over Carbed. The most I managed to do was remove the a/c compressor and belt, before just staring in awe at how much work this is gonna take.
So can someone point me in the right direction. What should I start with first? Or even a list of what parts to handle in order would be extremely helpful. I'll be posting pics tomorrow to give you guys a good look at her.
Another weird thing I noticed was this Limited Edition "sticker" set I found in one of the storage bins. There are two of them in cursive handwriting. I don't know if the car is or was a limitied edition. How can I find out?
Sorry for the long post but she's goin to be an ongoing project for the next year or so, so expect to be updated regularly.

Well when I took my Se engine out I just basicaly did it like any other motor. All Air cleaners etc and the the UIM. Once those are off you basically got yourself a 12a pull. If you intnd on using the same stuff just make sure that you label all the wires so that putting back together is a ******. I like to color code, it is a lot easier that way. Sometimes handwriting can get smuged.
Good luck. What are the plans for this car?

The nice thing about the SE's, compared to the FC's is that the emmissions harness unplugs in the engine bay, you can pull the engine without out taking the intake off but it's easier to remove it anyway. I understand exactly what you are saying. My 12a is stripped bare and runs a Mikuni, I don't like looking at a stock 12a, much less my FC when it comes time to work on it.
Both the Haynes and the FSM have decent sections on the 13b, label everything and take pics before and during disassembly. The fi systems are actually easier than the stock carb ones. It's just something new to learn and deal with.
