New Owner! Plus a couple Q's

We'll I've been the owner of a 1980 RX-7 GS for about a week now. And let me tell you, when i first got it I was an owner of a 7 now im a proud owner

I first owned a 93' 240sx which was simply a great car aside from the truck clicking sounds(thats a KA for you)
Then uh, I got it stolen.. kinda.

So I bought a 78' datsun for 70$ (needed to be compression started, plus it wouldnt idle so you had to have you foot on the gas at all times). A great workhorse and all but everytime I drove it I would think of Trixy(the 240) It was like having sex with a fat chick, just close your eyes and think of someone else

But now I got the 7 and I don't know if its the lighter weight, stiffer suspension or the nice tires but this thing can drive. This road I would take at about 50 or so in the 240 would make the tires screech but not the 7, it wont skid (I think im not going fast enough, hehe). Basicly its nice to drive a sports car again

But the q's.
1. What this and should it be filled? Cause its empty.

2. I was wondering about a gauge cluster swap between the SA and FB's, how-to, is it difficult, ext...(I've done a search but am having trouble finding anything useful)

Thats it, and thanks!

Oh and heres a pic of her sweet *** (It's ruff I know)

that is called the "subzero starting assist resivoir". on cold mornings it injects a mixture of 90 percent antifreeze and 10 percent water into the carb to de-ice the carb when the temp falls below a certain temp. i can't remember what the temp is. you can fill it but its more of a novelty thing anyways. i think it is neat and i keep mine filled but i don't think i have ever had the need for it.

mazdaverx713b is right. But the chance that it's still functional after 20+ years is very small. You could just remove it and cap the nipple where the hose attaches to the carb. An emptier engine bay is a happy engine bay, I say.

And, welcome to the club, Mr Drifter.

*buzzing sound*eeeggggghhhh.
An RS13 is a 89-94 Silvia Chassis which was the 240sx coupe here in America the Nissan Silvia in Japan. The RPS13 is the chassis code for the 180sx, which is the 240sx fastback here in America, which is what I had.....before I sold it

Exactly, I ripped mine out a year ago. Went through all this winter with no problem. Temps were around -10 to the 20s for highs, with wind chills around -50.

Now it's back up in the 40s and even 50s this weekend. WOOO!!!

RS was never used as a chassis code for the silvia, man.

The S13 is the chassis code for the nissan silvia with the CA18DE/DET engine 1989-1990
the PS13 is the chassis code for the silvia with the SR20DE/DET engine.1991-1994

RS13 is the 180sx with the CA18DET and the front end with the slits in the middle. We call it butabana(pig nosed) back in Japan.
RPS13 is the 180sx with the SR20DET/DE(there was only one model of the 180sx that wasn't turbocharged and it was the kouki type-S with the skyline style tailights)

becareful taking turns in the seven. I've noticed that they are a little easier to break traction than the 240sx

they're really all-or nothing when it comes to cornering. they're either sticking like glue, or the backend is swing out something fierce. it's fun as hell but yeah, caution is in order.

oh and jack - that's actually a pretty sharp lookin series 1. check out the autocross thread in the NW forum. i'm going to be there. you should sign up, friday is the deadline for pre-registration, i think.

I think I read here that most people undo the endlinks on the rear sway bar to make the car so it wouldn't oversteer as bad. I don't know if this works or not because I really have no problem with it. Did the SA's even come with rear sway bars?

Welcome to the forum. Its hard to tell in your pic, but is yours a Sunroof car, or no?

If it is sunroof, I have a glass roof for sale in my ebay store below for the pop up style 79-80 models.

Funny thing. My 240sx just got stolen and I'm buying a 1st gen 7 off my friend. Feel's bad when something is stolen from you.

Yeah its the thing to do. One of the reasons that I have a 7 is that unlike the the 240sx which is a waaaaaay watered down version of the silvia/180sx, the 7 is exactly the same car as the one in Japan without anything taken away from it. The only differences basically are the GSL-SE with the 13B instead of the 12AT but Its not that big os a deal. Of course in the states most of the FC's are N/A for some strange reason but I'm not even gonna go there.
