New owner with a few questions.

Hi all, I picked up an '84 GSL about 3 months ago and I've been lurking around here ever since. Unfortunately due to school, work and horrid winter weather it's been kinda slow going so far. But now with it starting to warm up(ie: it's not always below freezing) and access to a semi-heated shop I can finally get some real work done.

To avoid that obligatory and dreaded smile...here's a few pictures of it(might need to cut and paste):

The paint job was done a few years ago by the previous owner and I'm really not impressed. From what I can tell they didn't bother to remove anthing besides the doors when they did it and it's pretty faded after only 3 years. But it stopped must surface rust so meh.

Now for the bad, I live in Newfoundland(Canada) and the weather here is about as bad as it gets for cars rust wise. Winter temps go from about -15 to +5 during winter and they use LOTS of salt on the roads. This of course led to storage bin/wheel well rust. I've had that fixed and now I've just go to take care of some rusting on the underbody. My question is what can I do to help strengthen these areas? I plan on using my car as a daily driver and autocross vehicle during the summer. The daily driving doesn't worry me but I'm wondering what auto-xing with a good set of tires could do to the body/subframe. Would a 4-point cage help? or maybe more braces? I'm looking for anything and everything that can be done to strengthen the car's body. Specifically in the rear.

Also, I've noticed a slight coolant leak on the passenger's side of the engine running down the block towards the oilpan. I'm thinking it might be the intake manifold gasket. Am I right? or is there another common problem this could be?

Oh well, thanks for the help. I'll probably be hanging out here quite a lot. Oh yeah, and incase anyone hasn't already noticed I have a nasty habit of turning the most insignificant posts into books.

Andy
