New owner of an fb...yea

well, i have been out of the rotary group since early august of last year, had to sell the TII in my sig to pay for school. but...

I"M BACK!!!!

this time i am rockin a 1985 Gs w/200k miles and a nearly flawless body.

i may put a n/a motor from a fc w/TII rearend. the motor goes up to 10K rpm w/3mm seals.

I am excited. i got the car for about what a cheap c/d player costs.

W00t

only thing is...i don't know anything about carb'ed rotaries nor about the gs model (limited slip or no? i guess no). i've had an 88n/a and a 89 TII but never an fb nor w/carb.

is it possible to do a complete swap from the fc to the fb??? will the drivetrain be compatable or is the fb too short?

some advice would be good and much appreciated. i'll need some odd parts too, i.e weatherstripping, short throw shifter...

AHHHH it's good to be back!

GS is not an LSD model. You can get most of the stuff you're looking for @ Blackdragon or Mazdatrix.

Engine and trans can be swapped over if you use a 84-85 GSL-SE oil pan, and a GSL-SE front cover, or you can use the 12A front cover and suplement with premix. The first gens have a solid rear axle where the second gens are independent rear. Or you could just do a turbo blowthrough on the 12A . Just a suggestion. BTW, great to see another first gen saved.

The FC engine and transmission can be installed. Do a search, there are a ton of threads on it.

I'm starting on an '86 motor install myself

There's an '85 manual in PDF format here:

thanks for the link. there are so many options right now. i may go v6 or v8 to gain power and save gas; but...there is nothing like the rotary engine. i'd hate to yank the **** but it may be cheaper in the long run.

i think i want to yank out the old carburated wankel that has 200k miles on it and put in something a bit newer. a 10k rpm motor w/10k miles and lots of other goodies for 1k seems like a good deal to me. now to find 1k to buy it all with, that is the predicament.

does anyone want to buy an 02 audi a4 quattro???
