New noise to me....Tranny?
Well I was talking my SE out for its once a week walk on Tuesday and halfway to work, I noticed a shrieking noise from under the mid part of the car, around the transmission area. The noise is like a grinding rumbling sound. After testing it on the way home (glad I got home BTW) I found out the sound ONLY appears during these situations: Gears 1st through 3rd.. no noise with 4th or 5th. Car must be in gear and foot OFF the acceleration for the grumbling noise. The sound goes away when I hit the gas pedal.
Background info on the drivetrain: Driveshaft U joints were replaced about 4 yrs ago. Clutch was replaced with new one last Labor day with new TO and pilot bearing. I had a hard time shifting with this tranny before this new problem anyways ( a notchy feeling, a bit hard getting into gear). Besides yanking the tranny out to find out whats going on.. I just wanted to know if anyone else has this problem before. Is it the TO or pilot bearings? A buddy of mine even mentioned it might be the rear end....Thanks for any input
