New Engine?

So with a new rebuilt engine, whats the period i should wait before I actully rev it up, what should i be reving it to to break it in? How long should i be doing this? How soon should I Do the first oil change? I used to do them every 3000km? This still good or what?

For a newly rebuilt engine I would think to keep the rpms low. Change the oil the first time around 1,500 miles. Then after that start changin it after 3k miles. I t should be broken in till about a few thousand miles I would think. Around 2k maybe.

If you dont have new bearings 3k-4k should be good break in that is what my engine builder told me. If you did new bearings up that to 5k-6k for break in.

Sorry guys, but I'm going to disagree with all of you. Keep it under 3-4k for the 1st 500 miles, 4-5k for the 2nd 500. New bearings, under 6k for the 3rd 500. Change oil at 200/500/1000 miles, including filter. Dino oil only for break-in, preferably 10W30. New bearings take longer to break-in than the rest of the engine, they can take 2k miles to seat in. Used housings take longer to break-in than new ones do.

On 1st start-up, if the afrs are correct, run the engine in the shop at 2k rpm for 20 minutes, monitor temp and oil pressure. After the 20 minute period, do the rest of the break-in with city stop and go driving. No steady state cruising.
