Thumbs up New Door Seals from BD

I installed new rubber door seals from Black Dragon on my 85GS last night. They fit like a glove. The door is a little harder to shut..but I'm sure that will lessen over time. They are a big improvement over the worn originals. Just thought I'd share.

Did they stop any wind noise you might have had when driving on the highway?

I did the same ones back on my gslse and they worked great. Stopped all noise and water from coming in. A great upgrade for the money. I would say before you put on your new ones to make sure and clean the doors real good. Take car of any surface rust and or paint if needed. Once they are on there is no taking them off. That was the mistake I made and later relized it once I was ready for paint.

wow! i do get a discount at the dealer i buy parts from so that may account for the difference. the parts guy treats me good because i buy so much stuff.. although after looking at the receipt, i was mistaken. i paid $59 per side. i must have paid $42 for the window seals:

Did you talk to Tom Bender over there at Bill Blass Ford or do you have a different contact? How the heck did you get Mazda parts at a Ford dealership? LOL I am thinking of calling him up and ordering an extra set from him and having them shipped to me at that price!

I haven't had her on the road since I installed them. If the weather is nice this week I'll take it for a spin and let you know. I can't see how they could make the noise any worse considering the state of my originals (especially the drivers side).

Also, now that they've been on the car for 24 hours, the doors are closing much easier now.

Do you have a price from your dealer for the window run channel and/or the inner and outer window strips? The whole "rubber kit" from BD is over $400...
... oh, and I hear that you need to mend-up a sagging door if you replace the weather stripping.

not sure what you mean by mend up a sagging door..

the outer window seals that run along the door to window were $15 and the inners will be slightly cheaper.

If the hinge pins are worn, the doors hang lower than they should... when it's real bad, they'll chew up your new weatherstrip when you close the door.

Test is to open the door, grab the bottom edge of the rear of the door, and see how much you can wiggle it up and down. Can be a shocking amount of play there, especially if PO never lubed the hinge for 30 years...

The part I was asking about is...

http://www.blackdragonauto.com/icata...ll.aspx?Page=9

... on page 9, listed as the "glass run channel"

If there's a more inexepensive source for these (new...) that would be great.

the welt seal is probably the one that goes inside the window frame.
