new catylitic converter, still no dice
[85 GSL SE]
Well I have a new main converter now. It improved the emmisions about %30 but is still double the gross polluter levels.
The smog guy thinks it is running rich. Can you recommend a good rotary mechanic in SoCal. I live near Temecula.
Do you think I should replace the first and second converters also? They are original, but not broken up like the main was.
I am acquanted with a guy who builds rotaries for dune buggys. Does anyone have experience taking their rotary car to a rotary buggy guy?
Thanks for all the help. I am new to the rotary world, but really want to see this SE back in shape. Any help is greatly appriciated.

On my '84 -SE I originally failed emissions with the original cats in place, then I put in a generic 3-way cat, took it back and STILL failed..
HC's were way above the norm, which meant it was running rich as well
Instead of trying to lean it out, I added ~2L of methyl hydrate to 1/8th of a tank (along with replacing plugs, wires, dizzy cap/rotor, air filter)
and re-routed the Air pump straight to the cat - bypassing the ACV..
It passed by a LONG shot.
So, my first guess is that your ACV is bad

At idle to about 3000 rpm, the cats NEED O2 pumped into them to convert the HCs...there isn't enough in the exhaust pulse to do the job coming straight out of the engine...three way cat is mandatory to pass emissions...
