need some help with the fuel system; lines, carter pump, etc
i was planning on installing my new fuel filter set up and new fuel pump today. i came accross some fitment issues and didnt really like where my options were to put either. i have some ideas but before i do anything i need some input.
first off, in the pic, what is that? i THINK its there incase he car turns over and it prevents it from spilling fuel, but i could be way off. anyways, can i remove or relocate that? if i can remove it do i just need to block off where it connects to the tank? id like to install my filter set up where it is.
second, im not having a return line as my dellorto doesnt have the needed connections. all i currently have coming out of the tank is the feed line and the line to the item pictured above. i have lines on the other two nipples but im not sure what to do with them. since im not going to have a return line, unless i really need to, would it be alright if i remove the hard lines fuel lines except for the feed line? i found another place id like to install the filter set up but the return line and whatever the other smaller line is is in the way.
what is the other small line, if im not mistaken on stock cars doesnt it go to the charcoal canister? well, i dont have one anymore.
if i do remove the two other hard lines, what do i need to do about the nipples on the tank? i dont think i should block them off, or should i?
about the carter pump, is it ok if its tilted a slight bit? on the instructions it says it has to have one side up. i just want to turn it a slight bit so i can have more holes to mount it with.
thanks

The valve is in case of roll over. I would leave it in place and hooked up if possible. There are 4 lines, side by side, under the body. supply, return, vent and rear brake line.
If you Dell has the T supply, instead of the L at the carb and you don't wish to run a return, take the stock fpr that is in the return line between the carb and the hard line on the firewall and turn it it around. That effectively blocks fuel flow. If you have the L connection on the Dell, put a cap on the hard return line at the firewall. If you remove the return line all together, you will need to cap off the nipple on the tank.
If you are missing the vent hard line, it connects to the roll over valve, iirc. You should be able to leave that valve in place. The tank does need to vent as the fuel level drops and during temperature changes. I take it that your charcoal canister is gone too?

i was hoping youd show up to save the day
the dell has the L supply, so im not able to run a return line. thevalve that is pictured it blocked off on the end to where i think a line ran to the hard line that used to connect to charcoal canister. i have no charcoal canister in my engine bay.
i know the tank needs to vent.
heres my ideas so far:
see about maybe relocating the valve. i dont think itll be possible, but ill just look and see what i can come up with.
or
remove the hard lines that i am not using. so i need to unblock the end of the valve that the previous owner blocked off and run it to one of the hard lines and just let it breath into the engine bay or do you think the tank it breathing enough just going to the filter? there are three hoses on the valve, one from the tank, one blocked off that used to go to the hard line and one that just vents off into a whole in the frame rail.
if its breathing enough with the valve and the line going into the frame rail then ill just leave it capped off and remove the two unused hard lines.
what are the benefits of having a return line? better fuel economy i assume, anything else?

Uncap the valve and you are done. The line going to the frame rail is catch any fuel spill spill that occurs before the valve shuts off during a roll over. I would leave the valve where it's located, unless you need to move it to make room for a fuel cell.
Pumps tend to last longer witha return line due to the fuel flow through them cooling the pump. With your setup, you don't really need one.
Mount the Carter as per instructions. If you wish to make use of the extra mounting holes on the pump, make a mounting plate that is large enough to use the holes, then mount the plate to the body.
