Need info about modifying rear oil regulator for higher pressure
Hey fellas,
I'm getting ready to crunch down some rear oil pressure regulators to bump up the pressure slightly in my 1985 12A. I've got five total so I'll probably give them all the cruncharoo and then sell the extras. I know most people just whack them a couple of times with a hammer, but I'll be using a harbor freight 20 ton press to get the job done. Can someone tell me how much I'm supposed to be crunching this oil pressure regulator down? Are we talking 1/4"? 0.020"? 1/16"? I want to be a little more scientific about this if possible. I've got calipers and a shop press, just need some expertise from some of you who have done this before. This will be my first rodeo on this task.
This is going to be used on my 1985 12A that I am planning to street port when I rebuild it in the next couple of months. Will be paired with a highly modified Nikki, channeled Rx-3 intake manifold, DLIDFIS ignition, aluminum flywheel, RB exhaust, rats nest delete, mallory regulator, carter pump, electric fan, the whole 9 yards. I'm thinking I want to aim for about 90-100 psi oil pressure under load?
How much should I smash 'em down? Pictures attached. Input on this would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Jamie
