Need help installing distributor

I have a 1984 GSL-SE and in replacing the distributor somehow I got myself jacked up..it starts but runs like crap, if I get the yellow mark lined up with the mark, which direction should the rotor be pointing? L1,L2?

thanks,

troy

Remove the distributor and down on the gear there will be a mark on the gear and the shaft. Line those up and install the dizzy with those facing the 12o'clock position as you are standing on the drivers side looking at the engine. If it still won't start or idle then take it out and adjust the gear a tooth forward or back and try again. The rotor will turn a bit as your sliding the gear into place. It sounds like you did what my engine builder did and it's off one tooth. It would fire with a bit of a fight, had no power and wouldn't idle below 1500. He showed up and after some checking to make sure he didn't screw up something else on the build he pulled the dizzy and turned it a touch and it fired and ran like a brand new Civic.

Also, don't confuse the role pin at the bottom of the dizzy with the mark. The mark is a little dimple.

Yes, if the mark is moving, pull a spark plug from each housing. The dizzy top will try to rotate when installing due to the beveled gears so hold on to the body and the rotor while installing.
