Need help getting '84 GSL running

Hi everyone. I just purchased a 1984 Gsl for $600. After replacing the spark plugs, I've gotten it to start with the choke pulled out. It starts and revs to about 3,000 and stays there for about 30 seconds before dying. It also dies if I push the choke in (although it is pretty cold outside) or touch the gas pedal at all. However, if i pump the accelerator sometimes it will stay alive a little longer. I know the fuel pump is working because the guy (redneck) I bought it from has it hardwired directly the the battery and i can hear it working. Is this a problem with the carb? or is it something the the fuel line? Any help would be, well, helpful. Thanks a lot.

maybe see how much fuel is actually getting to you carb, it may also be the ignition system, I have found the ignition to be the most finicky part of my 7, the fuel system is pretty straight forward. I would recommend doing a full tune up of the car to start off, new fuel filter, air filter, distrib cap and rotor, flush the coolant.... etc etc.

The fuel is getting to the carb, but i don't know if it as at the right psi (i don't have a pressure gauge). I did flush the coolant but i found the coolant sensor wire had disentigrated from the actual sensor. Don't know if that is the cause of it cutting out though. I've seen on a few sites that the fuel pump relay goes bad and you can't bypass it. Can anyone tell me where this is and what it looks like? The car is an electrical nightmare so sometimes the wiring digrams in the repair manual are voided.

where in maryland, also if you need to use the choke to keep it running you more than likely have a vacuum leak. if your close i might be able to stop by.
