Need help after the dizzy swap!!
I'm such a dumbass, here it is 12:00 and just got the wiring done for my swap, I put in the second gen coil. Heres the news, it runs but I dont think its right after I put the dizzy on. I put it on like I though it should and went forward a tooth and found thats way too much. Mabye I have to go back even further? Do the pots make HUGE difference in timing between perfect tune and close to detonating? Please I need help asap!

I did have the first tally mark lined up when I first put the new dizzy on. I tried like hell to make the rotor in the same position too, but it just didnt look right. I dont think its running right at the moment, and I just cant get the notches lined up to the pin. I'm really unclear how they get these degree markings.. because my timing like doesnt do anything like that, just lights it up. As far as I could figure out in the manual, I just line the first notch up with the pin, and thats it? .. Please someonet help?

So first off, you do like you said. Turn the front pulley so that the pin lines up with the first mark. Then on the dizzy, turn the gear so that the dimple in the gear lines up with the arrow looking part on the dizzy shaft. Put the dizzy in, trying to hold the distributor rotor from turning and so that the hole for the dizzy bolt is in about the center of the slot.
Connect the timing light to L1, and run the engine at idle (about 750 rpm). Point the light at the front pulley and turn the dizzy until the pin lines up with the first mark. Then tighten the dizzy down. Next, you can check the trailing by nowq putting the timing light on T1, the pin should now line up with the second mark. If not, you can loosen the two adjustment screws on the trailing pot on the distributor and slide it either in or out to line the second mark up to the pin.
That should be it.

Yea it works! I noticed that the rotor is actually in a different position on the 79 compared to the 82 dizzy I replaced it with. Though the differences, It was exact on time! Thanks all for the help on this total swap, being I did the second gen coil swap at the same time. ( very simple )
