need help

Ok, this is what my Rx is doing, it Idles high at 2500-3000 rpms, while sitting still, the 1st & 2nd cats turn red hot within a couple of minutes of the car being on, the engine starts to smoke. The radiator does not run hot and it is not butning oil. I also hear a bubbling or gurgling sound coming from the carb jets.
2 of the jets are spraying and dripping out a lot of fuel also while the other 2 jets are doing nothing.
The exhaust smells like raw fuel and the motor shakes irractically.

Any information will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

mine would set the grass on fire underneath the car at one time... i was told that it was running to lean... but you say it smells like raw fuel... i would do a compression test first.. because if you lost a seal you would not be able to scavage enough vacuum to make the idle jets work properly.. i.e. raw fuel and irractic shake... hope it's not, but i'm just thinking out loud.. good luck and let us know...

smokin' huh?

Sounds like your cats are clogged you probably been drivin with a bad oxygen sensor. your motor shaking cuz your exhaust has no where to go but back into your engine. if your broke try guttin your cats.

Check the faqs in the stickies at the top of the forum, there is a very good carb section. When you find an O2 sensor, let Wiilie know. lol.

Sounds like you have lost your leading ignition (or your timing is WAY off). Pull a lower spark plug and check it out. You won't find an O2 sensor on your car, so don't bother looking.

Also, check the float levels in the carb. You are flooding the engine.

I know this is going to sound silly, but it is worth asking. Does anyone here know how to jump start a compressor? We need to get the compressor back up and running in order to add new coolant to the AC, and the book says in order to do it we have to get the compressor jump started.
