Need Help

Hey guys

Since you guys know your stuff i figured this is the best place to ask questions about an rx-7 i just picked up
it was sitting in a friends back yard for some time now

i dont know much about the car or the engine
but when i was playing with it yesterday it said 12a mazda on the engine

i wanted to know if anyone has some info on that engine or what spark plug wires go with what spark plug all i saw was on the spark plug cap was t1-t2
L1-L2 same thing where i put the spark plugs in but on the engine part where i put the spark blugs in dont say 1 or 2 so please some info would be great..

maybe even a blue print of the engine..

T1 - Trailing 1 - (top #1 rotor front)
L1 - Leading 1 - (lower #1 rotor front)
T2 - Trailing 2 - (top #2 rotor rear)
L2 - Leading 2 - (lower #2 rotor rear)

How this helps.

Also, Felix Miata's web site is a must read. It should answer a lot of engine questions you may have.

Felix Miata's Rotary Engine FAQ

Howstuffworks has a great page on How Rotary Engines Work. Check it out, it's pretty cool!

Welcome to the forum!

Welcome DV8,

We are all glad that you joined our loving community. A few things to do while you are here is to check out the "stickies" in each section, the archives, and don’t be afraid to use the search option for some answers.

If you have a question about rotary engines or RX-7's, you've come to the right place. When asking a question, be sure you are asking it in the appropriate forum. (ex. Not everything goes into the Lounge)

I've been a member for a while and have learned that this site is flowing with information, great people, and the owners are always striving to make this a better place for the users. The admins and moderators do not tolerate flaming other people or their property. If you are attempting to undermine the tranquility of the forum, I’m sure appropriate action will be taken.

On a personal note and fair warning: Ignore the people who have a pinecone shoved up their asses. (Basically, don't take everything on here personally.)

Enjoy your stay.

Okay with that out of the way,

Just to reconfirm what inittab said.

T = trailing
L = leading

T1 = top (front rotor)
L1 = bottom (front rotor)

T2 = top (rear rotor)
L2 = bottom (rear rotor)

Also a friend told me the best way to remember which is which...

T = Top = Trailing
L = Lower = Leading

If the car has been sitting for a while, check out www.mazspeed.com. In the facts section, they have an article about the 'ATF trick.' The engine might need a good cleaning. After the cleaning, you will need new plugs. Your local Mazda dealer should carry the 1st gen NGK plugs, which are your best option for spark plugs.

As for the 12A, you will read in the FAQ that 12A is a designation for the 1200 (actually 1146) CC rotary engine. The 12A is good for 100 hp and 105 ft/lb of torque in stock configuration.

Good luck and welcome to the community.

You can also get the NGK spark plugs from any local auto parts store and it might be cheaper then going to the dealer.

The 1st gen archive has some nice info on mods and other things people have done to their cars.
