Well, if you saw my other thread, that se was a fantastic car at one time... Id really like to have it back on the road again, and I think I sort of owe it to the car in a way. This black GSL with the RB holley and all that was a fun idea, but I dont think itll ever be as good as that red SE...

Maybe its time to take the panels off and take it to the frame rack..



Update on the GSL though, I can clearly hear a whistling when my low speed lean conditions occur. The carb isnt leaking around the base gasket, or intake mani...


Is it possible that the brand new RB throttle shafts are leaking?

If I were you I'd put the original jets back in, return it and say its faulty even if it isn't and go side draft. Sounds to me like a carb issue, but hey, you can never be sure unless you're actually there working on the car.

I put about 10 more lbs of torque on the intake mani bolts each and the problem has reduced. Idle quality has improved, but the uneven idle mixture remains. I think the manifold gasket surface is messed up and that its causing a leak between the runners. Im removing the mani and the rest of the related hardware for a closer look.

New gasket, same result. my "lean" condition seems to be a little more complex than I thought. Its lean to the point of no fire on one rotor at low rpms and low throttle angle. The same effect you get from unhooking the ignition on one rotor and starting it. Lawnmower sounding sort of. it only lasts a split second, then it picks back up and smoothes out and runs good.

At low rpm and high throttle angle it runs fine too. Any thoughts?

It just has to be carb related, and if I had to guess its related to the uneven idle mixture thats currently present with it.
