My thread on MSD vs. DFLISID whatever.
Ok. Say I get an ignitor or 4 from the bone yard. as far as the coils go, should I use the stock ones and get a third stock from the boneyard, or a new stock one from a parts store for 20.00, or should I go to MSD Blaster, Blaster 2 or blaster 3? are Accel coils any good? I can get accell coils fairly easy here, but I think that the superstock only puts out 42000 vs. the blaster putting out 45000.
What types of plugs should I run? I currently have BUR8EQ in leading and BUR7EQ trailing. at least I think Those are the numbers.
What type of wires? again the Accel wires are the easiest to get here. I want my car to be able to pass Smog here in Cali, but I dont really want to break the bank. If she dont pass within the first 2 tries Im gonna have to sell her.
My other option is the infamous MSD 6A or AL ignition. what are the benefits over the DLFIDSwhatever.. $170.00 up front is a bit harsh, but If I ditch my rex I could always sell it here or on Ebay. \
Mainly I just want to makit so my car can pass smog easier.

Fix your damn steering box. It only takes 10 minutes! Sheesh! OK, here's the break down...
. 1) Get a spare coil from the boneyard when you're hunting for ignitors (and by the way, avoid the '80 "on the strut tower" ignitors...). The coil is only going to set you back $5 tops but will allow you to set up the DLIDFIS now. You can spring for Jacobs coils as you can buy them later on.
. 2) If you can get Accel spark plug wires on the cheap, then get the universal set for a V8 from the 300+ Racing series...PN 110-7032 in the Jeg's catalog.
. 3) Read YawPower's site regarding ignition and particularly the section dealing with SIDE-CUTTING electrodes on spark plugs. There's a lot of theory, but here's a fact. A forum member, puaka, has gotten 15,000 trouble free miles so far from a set of these plugs which were side cut. You cannot run these plugs as is. You MUST perform the modifications outlined in Paul's site, but use these plugs and these gaps from puaka....NGK from the V-Power product line...R5400 (8 or 9 heat range available...) with the leading plugs "gapped" at 0.085" and the trailing plugs "gapped" at 0.055". These plugs will not function with the factory ignition system.
. 4) It's kinda late, so I'm not gonna run through the site for you, but there is a specific thread on how to set timing and fuel mixture to beat the sniffer. Just don't run the engine past 4500-5000 RPM while you're on these settings and don't stop your engine while you're waiting for your turn to get inspected. Unless, it's a real tired engine or the cat's history, you should be OK. Hope all this info helps out...
