Talking My new winter beater

I am buying a 1985 s-10 4x4 Blazer for a beater during winter time. Only $500. It's going to be fun!

With my summer tires I can't make it ANYWHERE....Even the slightest incline and id sit there spinning the wheels and Slooooowly i'd start to creep forward. No matter how slowly i'd try to start. Then again i have NOTHING in the back for weight, no spare, no jack, and no tar crap under the carpets either.

BULLony! 7's are a total blast to drive in the winter. You just gotta know how to drive 'em. I've driven one, daily, for twenty years in all kinda weather.

But, I guess for you guys just learning to drive on dry pavement (without pedaling or training wheels), ice 'n' snow could be a little scary... You need to get out on a frozen lake or a a large parking lot (watch those light poles!) and practice donuts and such. You'll be x-spurts in no time!

what do you think i do in my spare time? hehe, its only nerve racking cause school is like a 30 minute drive in nice weather and there are a few big hills that i was afraid i wasn't gonna make it. oh well, i did, here i am safe and warm in front of my computer. The main reason i want a winter car is to save the 7 from rotting out.

Now THAT makes sense...
But for those who don't have a "winter beater" (and I never have) - remember that car washing is even more important in the winter than it is in the summer. And washing wheel wells, engine compartment and UNDER the car is more important than washing the outside of the car.

It's not MY driving in snow that keeps me from taking Pamela on the roads - it's the other drivers sliding through intersections and up onto curbs (it's extremely icey here ATM)

My beater Daytona kinda looks like an FC though *L*

you said it best man... i was stopped behind someone, and i see some car coming up at me real fast, and i hear his tires lock up and his rear end start going sideways.. scared the **** out of me watching all that in my rear view mirror. i think it applies to all road conditions.. you can be the saftest driver in the world.. and some can slam into you jsut like that

Yeah, I think I have seen "snow" on Miami Vice. It comes in square bags by the Kilo right?

That's the only snow I've ever seen around here.

I love snow! I find it just as much fun to park the car and work on it for the winter as it is to drive it! Well, almost! I could do without the cold though, yeah, that and the ice! Even with a 4x4 truck as a winter vehicle ice is very bad!

7s suck in the winter. My parents had an 83 that they drove in the winter and I can't even count how many times it bottomed out just leaving the driveway. Sure it's fun to slip-slide around, but ANY car with RWD can do that in the winter. I'll never drive another 7 in the winter. Pushing the car all the way out the driveway blows. That and they put so much salt on the roads here, one winter will kill your car eventually.

And washing your car isn't necessarily such a hot idea, either. Sounds like it would be, but then you're spraying the salt into places it might not have otherwise gone. That and car washes frequently use recycled water before the final rinse. I'm not keen on hosing my ride down with NaCl impregnated H2O.

My buddy put Blizzaks on his wife's car - first day out she got rearended for, while she could stop on ice, the car behind her couldn't.

My beater is a 93' Audi 90cs FWD. I would personaly like to set this car on fire lol. It has horrible traction, just blew the water pump last night left me stuck on the side of the road. And continusly has VERY expensive problems. Thing is it was my dad's car so I can't sell the peice of crap! It's at the shop now (I can't work on it to many special computers needed for it). We will see how much damage it did to it self last night... After that I'm convincing my dad to get rid of it. And get a honda or somthing reliable and that doesn't take 10grand worth of dignostic equipment to fix...... Sorry had to rant.

Oh and yesterday when I went snowboarding (when the waterpump quit). I pull in the parking lot to go boarding and there are cops and a fire truck there. I'm like wtf? So I look over in the overflow parking which is like a feild and some kid had been doing doughnuts in his blazer. And he flipped! No one got hurt they were goin slow. Some guys said it was the funny as hell because the kid was an idiot. Dumb kids in SUV's can be just as bad as dumb kids in sports cars!

You can "chain" almost any car.... it's about whether or not it's LEGAL to do so, is the main question...
