Smile MY NEW TOY (pics)

Heres my new toy. Has been sitting uo for 2 yrs and when I got it it ran but had carb problems. I got lucky and got a new Nikke carb on e-bay for 150.00 (new old stock) Got the carb in the mail and low and behold its the right one and is really brand new. Well we started to switch out the carb and have run into one bolt just cant seem to get a wrench to it. The one that bolts on the carb under the linkage setup for the gas etc. We are going to try to weldup a wrench that is in the shape of a modified z to get to it. After downloading every PDF file I could find, I copied them on a cd and took it to office max and they printed out the manuals etc. and they are in folders. Now to try to get that carb on as I have a friend who has a vacuum tester and is a mechanic (was at one time and carbs were his speciality, USA cars though) and he will try to tune it . But I have to get it on by tommorow afternoon. Now I am now wizard at car work but I aint no lightweight either. Check my website out and you will see knives that I make. I am a fulltime knifemaker and make my own Damascus steel. Heres my site www.theknifemaker.com http://theknifemaker.com/ Anyway, I plan to get rid of the rats nest, put new toicko blue shocks, new suspension rubber, spiff out the interior, new weather strips (windows, doors and hatch) new paint, will investigate the direct fire ignition and go from there. well, enough of my rambling. here she is........

and last I thought I would put a picture of one of my blades. Hope you all dont mind and enjoy.

Thumbs up

Congrats on getting her on the road. That nut you are refeering to is a bit of a pain the 1st time you do it. If you remove the rats nests you will be able to get right at it. I bought a dist wrench many years ago from Snap-on just for that nut. You could also buy a crows foot wrench also.

If you are doing the rats nest removal, do that first, makes getting to that rear nut so much easier. I bought a set of stubby metric rachet wrenches, the 12 mm one works great on that nut, with or with out the rats nest. If you are familiar with the old style distributor wrenches, bend up a 12 mm like that and it will work.

Sorry Dan, seems to be a problem with the link. Go to the 1st gen archive section and do a search under my name and you will find it.

I've owned my car since june and taken the carb off three or four times. That is the nut from hell, but it can be removed without major surgury. Obviously you should disonect the fuel lines, and anything else on the that side of the carb first. It also helps to remove the module cirlced in red. It is secured by two nuts, indicated by red arrows (Don't lose them! These suckers can run away when you try to put them back on.) You should also remove the big hose, circled in blue. With all of these out of the way, you can get the open end of a 12mm wrench on the little bastard and break it lose. Once you've done that, turn it the rest of the way off with your finger tip and pull it out with a mechanic's magnet.

Putting it back on is evan more fun. It should be the first thing you do after re-ataching the throttle, choke, hot start cable and the OMP push rod. Get it threaded before the other bolts. Lift the carb slightly so that the studs are no longer protruding through the mounting flange and place the nut over the hole. Lower the carb until the nut is just sitting on the end of the stud and thread it one turn. The flange keeps it level with the threads.

The right rear nut is also nasty, but it's much easier to get to if you remove the little do-dad in the lower right of the following picture. The two bolts obove it hold it on.

Edit: That's a nice car, but I hate the colour. It looks pink in some of the photos.

Its a great looking car. I too hate the big *** pictures placed on page. Made it so I didn't read anything other than the replies put in by RX7DOCTER and trochoid.

Oh well. The car looks really clean from the few pics you put up, so congratulations on it.
