I could, but the point of this is to simply restore the car back to it's original glory. I don't want to modify it for more power. It would be nice, but this is too rare of a car to modify like that.

ISCRacing.net (based in florida) can still make FC-into-FB oil cooler kits with SS lines, on special order, since I know that's one of the few mods you're willing to make (which doesnt' change the "spirit" of the car).

At least, last time I called they could.

I can't wait to be done so I can fire her up and go for a drive in the mountains on a nice sunny day. I think that the next big step will be taking the Weds wheels apart and sending the center sections off for powdercoat and the dishes off for polishing. Then I'll those wheels will look brand new again.

Zach, POR-15 and other Isocyanate based rust type paints are NOT designed to go over clean/rust free prepped metal. You are $$$ ahead to go ahead and prep and paint the metal correctly with a good epoxy 2 component primer, then topcoat.

Most definitely on the epoxy base instead of the POR-15. Get in good with your painter/autobody supplier. Mine has saved me so much time and money from his advice, I'm suprised he still gives me a discount.

Your best bet on rust prevention will be to remove the stiffeners, prep them and the area underneath them. This will be tricky as you will need to brace each side form the A to B pillars, and crossbrace between all 4 pillars. If you can install the doors, line them up, them install the new braceing before removing the old ones, it will make reassembly and easier with less tweaking.

Thanks for the heads up guys. I'll have to go about it the way I had originally planned then. Somebody else had recommended the POR-15 saying it was the way to go. Glad that you guys came along before I did that!

Trochoid, I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to pull those braces out or not. I wonder if the braces on the underside of the car would be able to support things without the aid of the other braces? I could just pull one side at a time I guess. What do you guys think??

I know it sounds like a lot of extra work, but looking at the inside braces, they were never prepped. This leads me to be lieve that if there is any exterior bracing, the hidden side will be the same and it will always continue to rust unless it's removed and prepped correctly.

Since it sounds like you may strip the body entirely, do the same for the bracing. It will last longer than what Avatar did. While the body is stipped, it's not that big of a deal to weld in support bracing, then remove the added ones for prepping.

Well, you are replacing lots of things, like the exhaust and whatnot, right? Maybe you somehow forgot the size of the old exhaust and you "accidentally" made it a 3" catless system. Perhaps if you're going to pull apart the motor to freshen it up, its intake ports will somehow grow...? Just little things here and there, nobody has to know hahahahaha :P

Trochoid, I get what you're saying about the lack of prep on the bracing. I'll probably end up PM'ing you with some ideas when it comes time to remove the bracing to prep it.

Kevin, yeah I have been thinking the same kinds of things. I have a feeling that the ports might grow ever so slightly. I doubt that it will be noticeable unless you are looking for the 1-2 in/Hg difference in vaccum at idle though. And I'm still not sure about the exhaust. I don't know if I want to modify something that can be seen. Glad to see that you found this thread bro.

Preston, no I didn't get a chance to work on it this past weekend. I have been sick for the past week or so. I won't get a chance to work on it until the weekend AFTER this one. Damn military inspections are killing my car schedule.

Yeah, I forgot that's what it was. We'll see guys. But don't get your hopes up. Good news though. Ben (Cowboyfun) told me that he'll be in town for the first couple of weeks in June to do the paint and bodywork!! I so can't wait to see the car covered with beautiful Porsche arctic silver.

And sorry that I haven't updated the thread in so long. Work has been a bit rough lately. We have a big inspection going on right now so in prep for that we've been working at least 12 hour shifts with either one or no days off for the past couple of weeks. But things will be back to normal starting this weekend so expect to see some updates with pics by the end of the weekend.

Very impressive. My advice to you is to throw out your deadlines and just have fun with the project. I've built enough big projects to know it always starts out fun, then it becomes a job, then you hate it. Ditch the deadlines and work on it when you want to. That way it'll stay fun no matter how long it takes.

This is very true. I wanted to work on the car this weekend just to do some basic cleanup type stuff. Ended up taking care of a sick baby.

Responsibiltys suck at times, but the benifits are worth it in the end.
